DAVIS PITCHES BASEBALL TO SPLIT WITH PHILADELPHIA, 2-0, 0-3

Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) tossed a one-hitter to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 2-0 win over Philadelphia University on Friday morning in the first game of a doubleheader at Father Judge High School's Ramp Athletic Field Complex. The Rams earned the split by winning the second game of the day, 3-0.

Following four scoreless innings to start the opening game, the Dolphins scored the only run they would need on one hit in the fifth inning. Junior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) drew a walk to open the frame and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After an out, junior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) singled to center field to drive in Swetman.

Le Moyne added an insurance run in the sixth inning without getting a hit. Junior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) reached on an error by the shortstop to open the inning. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and moving to third on a two-out walk by Swetman to load the bases, Wright raced home on a wild pitch.

Davis improved to 2-1 on the season after striking out 11 batters in his 11th career complete game. The only hit he allowed was a double to right center by the first batter he faced, while he walked three batters. Paul Goldman took the loss for the Rams after allowing Swetman's run in the fifth inning.

In the nightcap, the Rams scored the only run they would need on two hits in the third inning. Catcher John Brocious led off with a double to left field and then moved to third on a single by center fielder Nick Goetz. Brocious then scored as second baseman Hector Gonzalez hit into a double play.

Philadelphia added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, first baseman Steven Wells hit a two-out solo home run to right center. Designated hitter Dave McTaggart led off the fifth with a single up the middle. After he stole second base with one out, McTaggart scored on a double to left center by Goetz.

Sophomore righty Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) suffered the loss after yielding three runs on six hits over six innings, while striking out six batters. Casey O'Donnell earned the win for the Rams after striking out six batters over five innings of work, while giving up just two hits. Hunter Greenwood earned a save after tossing a scoreless seventh inning.

Le Moyne (5-8) and Philadelphia play another doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Ramp Athletic Field Complex.
