SIXTH-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE RUNS WIN STREAK TO FIVE WITH 17-3 VICTORY OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore attackman Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) scored four goals as the sixth-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse registered a 17-3 win over American International on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the opening 3:10. Following a Le Moyne turnover, Matthew Biggs got the scoring started with an unassisted goal at the 13:05 mark. Only 75 seconds later, John Magliano tallied an unassisted goal for a 2-0 lead.

Le Moyne responded with seven goals over the final 11:02 of the opening quarter. Senior midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with 11:02 left with his 17t goal of the season. Just 12 seconds later, junior attackman Logan Thomas (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) finished off a feed from O'Brien in an extra-man situation for his 11th goal of the campaign. The Dolphins netted their third goal in 42 seconds as graduate student midfielder Matt Taylor (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Cornell) scored with 10:20 left to give Le Moyne the lead.

Following five and one-half minutes of scoreless action, junior midfielder Pat Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) found the back of the net for the fourth time with an unassisted marker. Off a restart of an errant shot, Thomas found Corapi in an extra-man opportunity with 3:29 left for his second goal of the day.

The Dolphins closed out the quarter with two goals over the final 16 seconds. Thomas scored off a feed from senior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) with 16 seconds left, while the two reversed roles 12 seconds later for a 7-2 lead.

Le Moyne blew the game open with six unanswered goals in the second quarter. O'Brien started the scoring with a man-up goal with 14:16 left after picking up the rebound off a shot by Thomas that was saved. Off the ensuing faceoff, junior midfielder Nick Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) picked up the ball and raced up field before sending a pass to Thomas, who flipped the ball across the crease to Kelly for his 17th goal of the season.

After almost 12 minutes of scoreless play, the Dolphins scored four times over the last 2:11 of the half. Senior midfielder Alex Zytko (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial/Brookdale C.C.) started the spree with his first goal as a Dolphin after taking a pass from redshirt senior midfielder Brett Axelson (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Merrimack). Just 23 seconds later, Corapi finished off a feed from Taylor for an 11-2 lead. O'Brien tallied his second goal of the quarter with 40 seconds left after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder Luke Bartkoski (Victor, N.Y./Victor), while closing out the scoring in the half with an unassisted goal with eight seconds left.

Sophomore attackman Cade Kelleher (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) registered the assist on both goals in the third quarter. He fed junior midfielder Mike Fiorini (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) with 10:06 left and O'Brien with 6:14 to go.

Kelleher then got into the scoring column with his third goal of the season with 11:43 left in the fourth quarter after taking a pass from freshman midfielder Ryan Suddaby (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). Zytko gave the Dolphins a 17-2 lead with an unassisted goal with 6:51 remaining in the game.

American International, which scored three goals in Syracuse for the first time in seven all-time meetings, finished off the game's scoring with 6:13 left as Bobby Spano found the back of the net for the 17th time this season.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.), who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season earlier in the day, registered seven saves (against two goals) in the first half to earn his fifth straight victory. Senior Ben Romagnoli (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Syracuse) made two saves (against one goal) in 24:57 in relief of Krawec. Perry Booker took the loss for the Yellow Jackets despite making 20 saves, including nine in the second quarter.

Le Moyne (6-1, 4-0 NE-10), which has won five straight games, returns to action on Saturday at third-ranked Merrimack College at 4:00 p.m. In the last regular season meeting in North Andover (March 26, 2013), the Warriors, with the help of a fourth-quarter goal by Axelson, snapped Le Moyne's 59-game Northeast-10 Conference win streak and its 33-game regular season win streak with a 5-3 victory.
