Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) dished out a program record eight assists to lead the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 19-5 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Monnat eclipsed the previous single-game assist record of seven set by McKenzie Gray '09 against the University of Detroit on March 5, 2009. The Dolphins jumped out the gates with six goals over the first 8:04, including the first three goals in a span of 41 seconds and the second three in 36 seconds. Freshman attacker
Abbie McEntee (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) got the scoring started with a free-position goal at the 28:54 mark. Just 26 seconds later, Monnat picked up her first assist of the game by feeding Pollard for her 17th goal of the season. Suriani then scored her 21st goal of the campaign 15 seconds later. Following almost six scoreless minutes, Pollard netted her second goal of the game off a pass from Geremia with 22:32 left. Geremia then found Suriani for a goal 14 seconds later, while Pollard completed her hat trick 22 seconds later after receiving a pass from Monnat.
The teams then traded goals over the next six minutes. Lauren Anderson got the Owls on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal with 20:45 remaining. Geremia gave the Dolphins their six-goal lead back by finishing off a pass from Monnat with 18:13 left. Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) pushed the margin back to six after taking a pass from Monnat.
Le Moyne scored five times over 3:47 to close out the scoring in the first half. Easterly started the spree with an unassisted goal with 7:18 left, while Geremia followed with an unassisted marker 72 seconds later. Suriani tallied her third goal of the afternoon off a pass from Monnat with 5:33 left in the half. Monnat got into the scoring column 42 seconds later after collecting a feed from Geremia, who then fed Suriani with 3:31 left for a 13-2 lead at halftime.
Emma Farrel started the scoring in the second half with an unassisted goal 4:11 into the period.
The Dolphins scored three times over nine minutes to take a 16-3 lead. Suriani converted a free-position shot with 21:10 left in the game to get the Dolphins on the scoreboard in the half. Geremia recorded her fifth assist of the game by finding McEntee for a goal with 18:41 left, while feeding Easterly with 12:10 remaining.
Keal netted her second goal of the game with 10:45 left after taking a pass from Kennedy Sherman to make it a 16-4 game.
Monnat found freshman attacker
Jacqueline Pardee (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) in front of the crease for goals at the 6:04 and 4:17 marks. The pass with 4:17 left tied Gray for the most assists in a game.
After Keal scored off a pass from Eliza Doane with 55 seconds left, Easterly finished off the scoring in the game with an unassisted goal with 42 seconds remaining.
Senior goalkeeper
Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) earned the win between the pipes after making one save (against four goals) over the first 49:15. Nora Anderson made 12 saves in the loss for the Owls.
Le Moyne (7-1, 4-0 NE-10), which yielded just five goals for the third time in four games, travels to Waltham, Massachusetts on Saturday to take on Bentley University at 12:00 p.m.
