BASEBALL SPLITS SOUTHWEST DIVISION DOUBLEHEADER AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 3-0, 1-3

Springfield, Mass. – Senior southpaw Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) recorded his fifth career shutout to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 3-0 win over American International College on Saturday afternoon in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader at Bedard Field. The Yellow Jackets posted a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

The Dolphins started the day's scoring with two runs on one hit and one American International error in the fifth inning of game one. Sophomore center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) drew a walk with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. He then raced home on a wild pitch. After an out, redshirt sophomore designated hitter Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) walked on five pitches and then stole second. Junior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) followed with a single to center to drive in Martin.

In the seventh, DiNorcia led off with a single up the middle and then stole second and third base around a fly out. Martin then singled to center to knock in DiNorcia.

Davis struck out eight batters without allowing a walk to pick up his fourth win of the season, while yielding just eight hits. Over his last four starts, Davis is 3-0 with two shutouts, a 0.59 earned run average and 34 strikeouts over 30.1 innings, while both runs he has allowed crossed the plate after he departed the game. Michael Gentile took the loss for the Yellow Jackets after giving up two runs on two hits and six walks over five innings.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins struck first with one run on two hits in the fifth inning. Martin led off with a bunt single to third base and then advanced to second on a passed ball. After moving to third on a fly out, Martin scored on a single up the middle by freshman left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy).

The Yellow Jackets evened the score at one apiece in the bottom of the fifth without getting a hit. Second baseman Brett Bohl drew a walk on eight pitches with two outs and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Catcher Eugene Quirk then reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, which allowed Bohl to come around and score.

American International took the lead in the sixth with two runs on three hits. Right fielder Tyler Geffert led off with a single up the middle and center fielder Dave Clark followed with a double to right field. First baseman Chris Starcun then singled to right field to drive in Geffert and Clark.

The Dolphins loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eighth on a single and two AIC fielding errors, but Harrison Paige induced a line-out double play to end the inning.

Sophomore righty Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) suffered the loss after yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits over seven and two-thirds innings, while striking out six. Paige went the distance on the mound for the Yellow Jackets and struck out six batters, while allowing just six hits.

Le Moyne (8-13, 2-4 NE-10, 2-4 SW) completes its three-game Southwest Division series with the Yellow Jackets on Sunday at 12:00 p.m., while playing a non-conference game afterwards.
