BASEBALL SWEEPS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 10-3 IN NE-10 ACTION, 12-6 IN NON-LEAGUE AFFAIR

Springfield, Mass. – Sophomore righty Ryan O'Kane (Memphis, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) struck out eight to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 10-3 win over American International College in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Bedard Field. The Dolphins won the seven-inning, non-league matchup, 12-6.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the first game with four runs in the first inning on three hits and one AIC error. Freshman right fielder Brian Cox (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingston) reached on a fielding error by the second baseman to open the game and then moved to second on a single through the left side by junior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). After a wild pitch advanced both runners, sophomore center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) doubled to right center to plate Cox and Charbonneau. Following a groundout, redshirt sophomore designated hitter Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) doubled to left field to drive in DiNorcia and then stole third base and scored on a wild pitch.

Le Moyne added one run in the fourth on one hit. Junior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was hit by a pitch with one out, moved to second on a groundout and then scored on a single through the left side by Cox.

American International got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with one run on one hit. Left fielder Tyler Geffert doubled to right to open the inning and then moved to third following back-to-back one-out walks to first baseman Chris Starcun and designated hitter Lucas Vallas. Third baseman Kevin White then lined out to center to knock in Geffert.

Following three scoreless innings, Le Moyne tacked on two runs in the eighth on one hit and one AIC error. Junior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) doubled to right to open the frame and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Martin, who had his at-bat prolonged by a dropped foul ball by the first baseman. After a walk to freshman left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy), Swetman scored as junior catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) reached on a fielder's choice. Following an AIC pitching change, Pittman scored from third as West got himself caught in a rundown on a stolen base attempt.

The Yellow Jackets got the two runs back in the bottom of the frame on just one hit. Pinch-hitter Alex LaFayette led off the inning with a home run to left field to force a Le Moyne pitching change. Shortstop Eddie Ritch, center fielder Dave Clark and Starcun all drew walks around a strikeout to load the bases and force another pitching change. Vallas grounded out on the third pitch he faced to drive in Ritch, while White also grounded out to end the inning.

The Dolphins closed out the game's scoring with three runs in the ninth inning on just one hit. Cox and Charbonneau walked with one out and then DiNorcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change and a strikeout, Martin doubled down the left field line to clear the bases.

Senior third baseman Max Nagelsmith (Duanesburg, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy-Albany) led off with a single to left center and then senior right fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.) was hit by a pitch. The Dolphins scored six times in the fourth inning on three hits and two AIC errors. With one out, Charbonneau and Swetman were hit by pitches around a walk to DiNorcia. Martin followed with a double down the left field line to clear the bases for the second time on the afternoon. After Pittman singled to center and moved to second as Martin was thrown out at home, he scored on a single to center by Nagelsmith. Following a walk by Mathers and an AIC pitching change, Nagelsmith scored as sophomore catcher Matt Buroni (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. Cox then reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, which allowed Mathers to cross the plate.

American International cut its deficit to 12-5 with three runs on two hits in the fifth inning.
