East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Shortstop Drew Hercik had four hits and scored three runs to lead East Stroudsburg University to a sweep of the Le Moyne College baseball team in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Mitterling Field. The Warriors won the opening game, 12-3, and took the nightcap, 7-3.
The Dolphins scored all three of their runs in the first game on three hits and an East Stroudsburg error in the first inning. Freshman right fielder
Brian Cox (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingston) led off with a single to the shortstop, but was retired at second as junior second baseman
Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) reached on a fielder's choice. After sophomore center fielder
Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop and junior shortstop
Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) singled to load the bases, redshirt sophomore
Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) doubled to drive in Charbonneau and DiNorcia. Freshman left fielder
JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) followed with a groundout to shortstop to plate Swetman.
East Stroudsburg answered with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. Third baseman Jay Young led off with a double and right fielder Ian Allen walked with one out. After Young and Allen stole a base, designated hitter Dylan Tamecki singled to plate both runners.
The Warriors took the lead with two runs on three hits in the second frame. Hercik led off with a single and then stole second. Two batters later, second baseman Aden Tully singled to knock in Hercik. Young followed with a double to drive in Tully.
East Stroudsburg blew the game open in the fifth inning with six runs on three hits and two Le Moyne errors. Center fielder Casey Saverio walked and Allen doubled to open the frame. After a pop out, first baseman Matt Walewski reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder to plate Saverio. Left fielder Christian Rishel then doubled to score Allen and Walewski. After Hercik singled and stole second, catcher Steven Zimmerman reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, which allowed Rishel and Hercik to score. Following a strikeout, Zimmerman scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors completed the game's scoring with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Saverio singled and stole second to open the frame. After Allen singled, Tamecki singled to drive in Saverio. Allen then scored on a wild pitch.
Senior lefty
Jon Dunn (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) took the loss on the mound for the Dolphins after allowing four runs on six hits over four innings, while striking out three. Matt Festa earned his fifth win of the season after retiring all three batters he faced in the second inning.
The Dolphins struck first again in the nightcap with two runs in the first inning on one hit and two errors by the Warriors. Senior center fielder
Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.) reached on an error by the shortstop to start the game and then advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher as Charbonneau reached on a fielder's choice. Swetman then singled to drive in Mathers. After a pop out, sophomore designated hitter
Tyler Piasecki (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville South) grounded out to second base to knock in Charbonneau.
East Stroudsburg responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Young doubled and Saverio walked to open the frame and then each moved up on a wild pitch. Allen followed with a groundout to drive in Young, while Saverio then scored on a single by Tamecki.
The Warriors scored one run on one hit in the second to take the lead. Second baseman Nick Rabasco walked with one out, stole second and then scored on a single by Young.
East Stroudsburg extended its lead in the third with two runs on two hits. Tamecki walked with one out and moved to third on a two-out double by Hercik. After a Le Moyne pitching change, Tamecki scored on a wild pitch. Designated hitter Brett Bonn then singled to knock in Hercik.
The Warriors scored for the fourth straight inning with two runs on one hit and one Le Moyne error in the fourth. Rabasco walked to open the inning and then stole second. After a strikeout and a walk by Saverio, Allen reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder to load the bases. Following another strikeout, Walewski singled to plate Rabasco and Saverio.
Le Moyne pushed across one run in the seventh to complete the game's scoring. After Mathers and Charbonneau drew back-to-back one-out walks, Swetman singled to drive in Mathers.
Senior southpaw
Bobby Renaud (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) took the loss after yielding five runs on five hits over two and two-thirds innings. Swetman finished the game with four of Le Moyne's seven hits. Derrick Jackson picked up the victory after giving up two unearned runs on four hits over three innings.
