SOFTBALL SWEEPS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL IN SOUTHWEST DIVISION ACTION, 3-2, 2-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Mackenzie Dreher (Hinckley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) had a pinch-hit two-run single in the opening game and freshman Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) tossed a three-hitter in the nightcap to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins rallied for a 3-2 victory in the first game and posted a 2-0 win in game two.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the second inning of the first game on two hits and one Le Moyne error. First baseman Alexa DiLeo led off with a single to left field and moved to second as third baseman Jorrdin Miller reached on an error by the second baseman on a sacrifice bunt attempt. After DiLeo was retired at third as second baseman Lyndsey Letourneau reached on a fielder's choice, shortstop Yami Lopez-Perez tripled to right center to drive in Miller and Letourneau.

Le Moyne cut its deficit in half on two hits in the fifth inning. Sophomore shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) beat out a ground ball to her counterpart to start the frame and then stole second base. Following a pair of strikeouts, sophomore third baseman Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) singled to left center to knock in Case.

The Dolphins took the lead with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior catcher Kristie Capuano (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) singled to right field with one out and advanced to second on a two-out single to left field by junior left fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield). After Case poked a single to left field to load the bases, Dreher singled to right field to drive in Capuano and Reynolds.

Junior Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) earned her seventh win of the season by going the distance in the circle and striking out four batters, while yielding two runs (one earned) on four hits. Case finished with three of the team's 10 hits, while Capuano and Mascari each had two hits. Alyssa Camargo took the loss for the Yellow Jackets after allowing three runs on 10 hits over six innings, while striking out 10.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins scored the only runs in the first inning. Case led off by ripping a triple to the gap in right center. After junior second baseman Meagan Malarkey (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott/Broome C.C.) dropped a bunt single in front of the plate, sophomore center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) singled to the shortstop to drive in Case. After Malarkey and Case moved up on a wild pitch, Malarkey scored as Eastman grounded out to the third baseman.

Eastman struck out eight batters en route to registering her third straight victory in the circle, while yielding just three hits and one walk. She allowed multiple base runners just one time during the game and only had one runner advance to third base, which happened via a throwing error. Case tallied two of Le Moyne's six hits for her team-best 14th multi-hit game of the season. Jillian Bedard took the loss for the Yellow Jackets after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings, while striking out three batters.

Le Moyne (14-9, 7-6 NE-10, 6-5 SW), which has won five straight Southwest Division games, continues its final homestand of the season on Saturday with a Southwest Division doubleheader against the University of New Haven at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the first game, Capuano and classmate Jillian Jacinth (West Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
