Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team mounted a seventh-inning rally in the opener and then exploded for a season-high 12 runs in the nightcap to sweep the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins won the opener, 2-1, and registered a 12-1 win in five innings in the second game.
Following four scoreless innings, the Chargers started the game's scoring with one run on one hit. Left fielder Erika Williams led off with a double to center, moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a groundout to the shortstop by right fielder Tori Schiebe.
The Dolphins walked off with the victory with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior catcher
Kristie Capuano (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) drew a walk to open the frame and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by classmate
Jillian Jacinth (West Babylon, N.Y./Babylon). After a fly out, junior left fielder
Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was hit by a pitch and then sophomore shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) singled to her counterpart to load the bases. Junior pinch-hitter
Mackenzie Dreher (Hinckley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) followed with a single to right field to drive in Capuano and Reynolds with the winning run. The hit marked Dreher's second go-ahead pinch-hit, two-run single in three games.
Junior

Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) followed with a single to left field to drive in Case. After sophomore center fielder
Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) singled to left to load the bases, freshman pitcher
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) singled to right field to score Trotta and force a New Haven pitching change. After an out, Mascari scored as Capuano reached on a fielder's choice.
New Haven pushed across its only run of the game on two hits and one Le Moyne error in the second inning. Catcher Marissa Colby singled to center to start the frame, stole second and then scored on a throwing error by the shortstop as second baseman Gabby DeLeo reached on a single to the shortstop.
Le Moyne extended its lead to 7-1 with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. Junior second baseman
Meagan Malarkey (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) reached on a bunt single to start the inning and then Case singled to center. After Trotta reached on a bunt single to load the bases, Riley was hit by a pitch to force in Malarkey. Following a New Haven pitching change, Eastman singled to center to drive in Case and Trotta. On a groundout by Reynolds, Riley scored her team's seventh run.
The Dolphins scored five times on six two-out hits in the third inning to take a double-digit lead. Following two groundouts to start the inning, Case singled to the shortstop and Trotta singled to left field. Mascari then doubled to right field to knock in Case and Trotta.
