BASEBALL OPENS NORTHEAST-10 SOUTHWEST DIVISION PLAY WITH 6-2 VICTORY OVER SAINT ROSE

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – Senior southpaw Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) struck out nine batters over eight scoreless innings to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 6-2 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Thursday night in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Dutchess Stadium.

The Dolphins, who won four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at Dutchess Stadium between 1998 and 2007, scored at least once over each of the first four innings of the game. They scored once on two hits in the first inning. With one out, junior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) singled to center field and then stole second base. Sophomore center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) followed with a single to center to drive in Charbonneau.

In the second inning, the Dolphins used two hits to score one run. Junior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) singled to right field with two outs and then stole second. After a walk, freshman Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) singled through the left side to plate Swetman.

Le Moyne scored twice on two hits in the third inning. Junior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) drew a walk to open the frame, he came around to score on a triple to right center by junior catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit). Two batters later, freshman left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) singled to left to drive in West with the game's fourth run.

The Dolphins took a 5-0 lead with a run on two hits in the fourth inning. Cox double to left with one out and raced home on a double down the left field line by Charbonneau.

Following four scoreless innings, the Dolphins tacked on one run on two hits in the ninth inning. Cox drew a walk to open the frame, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a single through the left side by DiNorcia.

The Golden Knights pushed across two runs in the bottom of the ninth to trim their final deficit to four. Right fielder Joseph Carcone, a one-time Dolphin commit, drew a walk to open the inning and force a Le Moyne pitching change. Center fielder Derek Reed greeted the new pitcher with a single to center on the first pitch to bump Carcone to second. After catcher Lukas Nethaway singled through the left side to load the bases, shortstop/second baseman Tyler Ungerland lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Carcone. Following a walk by left fielder Nick Venier to load the bases again, first baseman Chris Introcaso flied out to center to plate pinch-runner Sean Maki.

Davis improved to 3-1 on the season after yielding one run on three hits over eight-plus innings. Cox, Charbonneau, DiNorcia, West and Swetman each had two of Le Moyne's 12 hits. Coby Schwartz took the loss for the Golden Knights after allowing four runs on six hits over three innings, while striking out four batters. Carcone recorded two of the three hits Davis allowed.

Le Moyne (7-9, 1-0 NE-10, 1-0 SW), which played its first game in 19 days after having 11 games postponed or cancelled, returns to action on Friday at Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. The Dolphins will serve as the home team for the three-game series with the Panthers since the series was originally scheduled to be played in Syracuse.
