Easton, Mass. – Third-seeded Stonehill College won all three completed singles matches to defeat the sixth-seeded Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
In doubles action, Stonehill claimed two of the three doubles matches. At the top spot, Thomas Bellio and Nikolay Lisichenok registered an 8-1 win over sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa). Tom Alaimo and Jon Sanders claimed the point at second doubles with an 8-1 win over freshman
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) and sophomore
Steve Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Freshman
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) were victorious at the third spot over Jared Drzal and Tom Buckley, 8-6.
In singles action, Alaimo picked up Stonehill's third point of the match by recording a 6-4, 6-1 win over Barton at the second spot. Lisichenok then posted consecutive scores of 6-3 to top Spoor at the fourth spot. Phillip Klados clinched the match for the Skyhawks with a 6-4, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Procopio.
The Dolphins finish the season with a record of 7-11.
