TOP-RANKED ADELPHI RACES PAST THIRD-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE, 15-6, IN BATTLE FOR TOP SEED

Syracuse, N.Y. – Alex Froccaro recorded six points to lead top-ranked Adelphi University to a 15-6 victory over the third-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale at Ted Grant Field.

With the Adelphi victory, the Panthers and Dolphins share the Northeast-10 regular season title for the second time in three years and by virtue of the head-to-head win, Adelphi claims the top seed in next week's Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

Adelphi jumped in front of the Dolphins with four goals over the opening 10:22. Felicia Mills started the scoring with a free-position goal in an extra-man situation with 28:17 left. Jacqueline Jahelka finished off a feed from Alexa Froccaro with 24:55 left, while Froccaro picked off a Le Moyne clearing attempt and raced in to score her 48th goal of the year with 20:46 left. Just 68 seconds later, Rachel Aitkens converted a free-position shot after another failed clear by the Dolphins.

The Dolphins, who lost at home by more than two goals for the first time in five seasons at the Division II level (five total losses, one each season), got on the scoreboard with 18:52 left as sophomore midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored her 13th goal of the season from in front of the net off a pass from classmate Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).

The teams then traded goals over a span of 10 minutes. Jahelka tallied her 56th goal with 14:43 left, while Pollard recorded an unassisted goal, her 37th, with 9:22 left in the half to make it 5-2. Jahelka answered back with 6:39 remaining after taking a feed from Rachel O'Brien. Senior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) got the Dolphins within three for the final time with an unassisted goal with 4:56 left in the half.

The Panthers took advantage of another failed clear by the Dolphins to regain a four-goal lead. After scooping up a loose ball, Danielle Jaycox raced in unopposed to register her 31st goal of the year with 4:21 left. Froccaro pushed the margin to five with a free-position goal 65 seconds later.

Suriani recorded her 51st goal of the year with 2:24 left on a free-position shot to get the Dolphins within 8-4, but that's as close as they'd get the remainder of the game.

Emily Keesling completed the half's scoring by finishing off a feed in transition from Kate Beier with 1:26 left.

The Panthers scored the first six goals of the second half to put the game away. Froccaro scored her 50th with 28:57 left off a pass from Mills, who was lined up for a free-position attempt. O'Brien curled around the right side of the net for her 29th goal of the year with 23:33 left. Following 10 scoreless minutes, Froccaro netted an unassisted goal, while O'Brien converted a free-position shot 42 seconds later to become the just second player in the conference with at least 30 goals and 30 assists. Froccaro completed the back-and-forth scoring with O'Brien by scoring off a feed from O'Brien with 8:36 to play. Jahelka completed Adelphi's scoring with 3:01 left with her conference-best 58th goal in an extra-man situation.

The Dolphins tallied the final two goals of the game. Off the draw following Jahelka's goal, junior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/SUNY Cortland) raced in unguarded to record her 56th goal of the season, while in the process registering her 100th point of the campaign to become just the second Dolphin to reach that plateau. After a turnover by each team, Geremia scored from the right edge of the crease with 35 seconds left.

Senior goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) recorded eight saves for the Dolphins in the loss, just the seventh of her career. Taylor Hayes made two first-half saves in the win for the Panthers.

Le Moyne (15-2, 12-1 NE-10), which had its 12-game win streak (the second-longest in the country) snapped, hosts seventh-seeded Assumption College in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
