FOURTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE CRUISES TO 18-1 VICTORY OVER ASSUMPTION IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) scored a career-high six goals to lead the fourth-ranked and second-seeded Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to an 18-1 victory over seventh-seeded Assumption College in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

With the victory, the Dolphins improve to 16-2 on the season and advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals, where they will face the third-seeded University of New Haven at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at top-seeded Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. Adelphi will also host the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Junior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) got the scoring started with 26:16 left by finishing off a feed from classmate Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), who had caused a turnover on an Assumption clearing attempt and scooped up the loose ball. Just 56 seconds later, Geremia scored from the left edge of the crease after coming from behind the cage.

The Greyhounds netted their lone goal of the contest as Meghan Cushing scored from the right edge of the crease with 21:11 remaining.

Le Moyne countered with six goals over a span of 7:14 to take an 8-1 lead. Senior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) ignited the run by netting her 52nd goal of the year with 20:02 left after taking a pass from Monnat. Pollard recorded her first goal of the day with 18:47 remaining after going coast-to-coast following a save by senior goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River). Suriani picked up her second goal of the afternoon with 17:18 to go, while Pollard followed with an unassisted marker 33 seconds later. Just over three minutes later, sophomore attacker Alexis Garbarino (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) registered her fifth goal of the season, while Monnat capped the streak with her 24th goal with 12:48 left.

The Dolphins, who defeated the Greyhounds, 18-6, last Wednesday in Worcester, closed out the half's scoring with two goals six minutes apart. Suriani made the score 9-1 with 6:56 left, while Pollard gave the Dolphins a 10-1 halftime lead with her 40th goal of the year with 56 seconds left after taking a pass from Monnat.

Le Moyne had five players account for its eight goals in the second half. Geremia started the half's scoring with her 60th goal of the campaign with 29:07 left. Senior midfielder Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made the score 12-1 with 25:50 remaining by converting a free-position shot for her 29th goal of the year.

After almost 10 minutes of scoreless play, Geremia netted her 61st goal of the season. With the goal, Geremia moved within one point of tying the program's single-season points record of 106 set by Brittany Brigandi '12 during the 2011 season. Redshirt freshman midfielder Nicole Easterly (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) recorded her sixth goal of the year with 12:26 to play after taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus).

Pollard tallied three of Le Moyne's final four goals over the last 11:14. She gave the Dolphins a 15-1 advantage with 11:14 to play and then posted another unassisted marker with 9:14 left. After scooping up a loose ball off a missed shot and getting fouled, McGuane converted a free-position shot with 5:45 left for her 14th goal of the campaign. Pollard completed the scoring with 35 seconds left after taking a feed from redshirt freshman attacker Sarah Fuller (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.).

Marbut finished the contest with 10 saves, her fifth game of the season with double-digit stops, to record her 16th victory of the season, which ties her career-high and is tied for the second-most in the program's history. Jaclyn Chirco made eight saves (against 16 goals) over 50:46 in the loss.
