FOURTH-RANKED ADELPHI EDGES TOP-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE, 12-11, IN OVERTIME FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

Syracuse, N.Y. – Connor Duddy scored with 21 seconds left in overtime to give fourth-ranked and third-seeded Adelphi University a 12-11 victory over top-ranked and top-seeded Le Moyne College in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship game on Sunday at Ted Grant Field.

The teams, who entered the contest ranked first and third in this week's NCAA North Region rankings, now await word on bids for the NCAA Championships. The selections, four institutions from the North and four from the South, will be announced by the NCAA tonight at 7:30 on ncaa.com.

The Panthers started the game's scoring on their second possession as first team all-conference attackman Salvatore Tuttle netted his 43rd goal of the season at the 11:57 mark.

The Dolphins answered back with two goals in a span of 49 seconds. Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) evened the score at one apiece with 10:17 left with his 40th goal of the campaign. Off a save by Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.), senior midfielder Alec Westerhoff (Lagrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township/Bridgton Academy (Maine)) went coast-to-coast for his third tally of the campaign with 9:28 remaining in the opening quarter.

Tuttle knotted the score at two just under minutes later.

Le Moyne regained the lead and pushed the margin to two within 31 seconds. Sophomore all-conference midfielder Brian Rogers (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) put his team up 3-2 with an unassisted goal, his 25th, with 5:20 left. Corapi doubled the lead with an unassisted marker with 4:49 to go.

Tuttle recorded his third goal of the opening quarter with 10 seconds to go to pull the Panthers within 4-3.

Adelphi scored three times in a span of 69 seconds within the first two minutes of the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead. Jamie McAndrew ignited the burst with his 25th goal of the year with 14:13 left, while all-championship team selection Tim Daly put the Panthers in front 42 seconds later with his 19th goal of the season. Only 27 seconds later, Duddy registered his 26th goal of the campaign to force a Le Moyne timeout.

Le Moyne countered with a pair of goals to even the score at six apiece. Following an Adelphi slashing penalty, Corapi tickled the twine for the 42nd time this season with 11:21 left off a pass from sophomore attackman/midfielder Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High). Just over three minutes later, all-conference graduate student midfielder Matt Taylor (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Cornell) tallied his 29th goal of the season to tie the score for the fourth time.

Adelphi regained the lead just 59 seconds later on Daly's 20th goal of the season.

Taylor pulled the Dolphins even again with a goal from the left side with 59.7 seconds left in the second quarter.

The Dolphins won the ensuing faceoff, but immediately turned the ball over, which allowed the Panthers to call timeout with 13 seconds left. After Tuttle was able to make his defender slip on the right side of the field, he buried a shot into the back of the net with three seconds left to give Adelphi an 8-7 lead at halftime.

The Panthers extended their lead to 10-7 with the only two goals of the third quarter. Following a Corapi turnover, McAndrew recorded his second goal of the day with 13:26 left. After back-and-forth play over the next five and one-half minutes, Tuttle scored off a pass in transition from Cory Stavis following a Le Moyne turnover.

After being held scoreless for almost 18 minutes, the Dolphins scored four times in 8:32 in the fourth quarter to take the lead back. Off a drive from the left side, redshirt senior Brett Axelson (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Merrimack), who was inserted at attack, registered his third goal of the season (and second of the NE-10 Championships) to get the Dolphins within two with 13:18 left. Just 76 seconds later, all-conference senior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied his 36th goal of the campaign.

Following two empty possessions by each team, senior attackman Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) evened the score at 10 apiece with 6:55 by netting his 14th goal of the season after curling around the cage.

After Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year Gerald O'Brien (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) for a turnover by Tuttle on a clearing attempt, Breiner gave the Dolphins the lead 44 seconds later by coming around the cage again for his 15th tally of the year with 4:46 left.

Adelphi took advantage of Le Moyne's only failed clear of the game to knot the score for the seventh and final time. After scooping up a loose ball after Jack Cutrone caused a turnover, Stavis fed Susko in front of the open net for his 37th goal of the year with 3:04 to play.

The Panthers won the ensuing faceoff and put two shots on goal over the next 70 seconds, but Krawec was able to push each aside. After committing a shot-clock violation, but getting the ball right back on an errant pass by the Dolphins, Adelphi had one last chance to win the game in regulation, but Krawec denied Daly's shot at the buzzer.

Following Adelphi goalkeeper DJ Mauro's second save of the overtime period, the Panthers scored the game-winning. Susko sent a pass to Duddy on the right side, where he buried his 27th goal of the season to give the Panthers their third NE-10 title in five years.

Krawec finished the game with 12 saves, including seven in the second half, but suffered his first loss since February 28. Mauro improved to 8-0 between the pipes after recording 14 saves, including eight between the second and third quarters.
