WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY MERRIMACK, 2-1

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jenna Savi was a part of both goals to lead Merrimack College to a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

In the scoreless first half, Merrimack registered a 9-5 advantage in shots, while the Dolphins recorded a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.

Merrimack took its first lead of the game just over 10 minutes into the second half. Off a corner kick from the left corner by Savi, Victoria Carter headed the ball from the top of the penalty box into the upper left corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

The Dolphins answered back in similar fashion just under two and one-half minutes later. Sophomore back Emily Goldasic (Thornhill, Ontario/Elizabeth Catholic) set the kick from the right corner into the middle of the penalty box, where senior midfielder Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) headed the ball from yards out into the right side of the goal for her third tally of the campaign.

The Warriors regained the lead only four minutes later. After Gigi Guenther intercepted a Le Moyne throw-in, she sent a pass to Savi, who fired a shot from 30 yards out into the upper left corner of the net at the 61:55 mark for her third goal of year.

The Dolphins were only able to put one shot on goal over the final 28 minutes, but it was saved by Merrimack goalkeeper Molly Meehan.

Senior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) recorded seven saves in the loss for the Dolphins. Meehan made the one save to earn the win between the pipes, while Meghan Gulbrandsen turned away three shots in the first half. Merrimack registered a 21-15 edge in shots, while posting a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks, including 10-2 in the second half.

Le Moyne (1-4, 0-2 NE-10), which has dropped each of its last three games by one goal, travels to The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday at 5:30 for the second contest in this year's "Upstate Challenge".
