WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY SAINT ANSELM, 64-51

Syracuse, N.Y. – Caitlyn Abela and Ali Glennon combined to hit nine three-pointers to lead Saint Anselm College to a 64-51 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Sophomore guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) led the Dolphins offensively with a career-high 10 points off the bench, while adding two steals.

Abela led the Hawks with a game-high 17 points, including 14 in the first half, after nailing five three-pointers against the Dolphins for the second time in any many career meetings. Glennon made 4-of-5 three-point attempts en route to 16 points, while Raquel Johnson was the third Hawk to score in double figures with 12 points. Kaila Duarte pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, including 10 in the second half, while Samnell Vonleh, whose brother Noah was the 2014 Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Indiana University and the ninth overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft, recorded a game-high three blocked shots.

After the teams traded baskets over the opening 6:22 of the game, resulting in a 9-7 Saint Anselm lead, the Hawks scored the final 10 points of the quarter. Glennon nailed a three-pointer and made a lay-up to lead the run.

The Dolphins scored the first two points of the second quarter, but Saint Anselm answered with 15 of the next 19 points to take its largest lead of the half, 34-13, with 5:35 left in the half. Abela accounted for nine of the 15 points with a trio of three-pointers.

Following three scoreless minutes of action, Le Moyne countered with a 10-3 spurt to get within 37-23 at halftime. Senior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) made three free throws and a three-pointer to lead the run.

After sophomore forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) knocked down a jumper to open the scoring in the third, Saint Anselm ran off 10 straight points to take its largest lead of the game, 47-25, with 7:40 remaining. Glennon started the streak with a three-pointer and capped it with a jumper in the paint.

The teams then went back and forth over the final 7:28 of the quarter with Saint Anselm's lead bouncing between 18 and 22 points and settling at 55-35 at the end of the period.

After seven points from each team over the opening seven minutes of the third quarter, Le Moyne tallied seven straight points in 69 seconds to cut its deficit to 13 with 1:33 left. Three Dolphins scored in the span, which was capped by a Leszyk three-pointer.

Each team scored two points in the final 51 seconds to deliver the final score.

Le Moyne (7-8, 4-5 NE-10), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, returns to the hardwood on Saturday against Merrimack College at 12:00 p.m.
