Syracuse, N.Y. – Kristine Rios registered a triple-double to lead the University of New Haven to a 3-1 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Sunday morning in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
New Haven (9-5, 4-0 NE-10), one of just two undefeated teams remaining in the NE-10, opened the match with a 25-20 victory after scoring the final four points of the set. The Dolphins answered back with a 25-18 victory in the second set, which included a 9-2 run in the middle of the set, to knot the match at one apiece. The Chargers regained the lead with a 26-24 win in the third set after recording a 7-3 run to for the win. New Haven used a 13-4 run in the middle of the fourth set to close out the match with a 25-17 victory.
Senior outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) extended her streak of consecutive double-doubles to seven with her ninth of the year by recording 14 kills and 15 digs. Sophomores
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) and
Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) tallied 12 and 10 kills, respectively, while Hafoka had six digs and three blocks and Miller posted five blocks and three digs. Junior setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) dished out 45 assists and posted 11 digs for her third consecutive double-double and team-high 10th of the season. Sophomore libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 30 digs. With her 12th dig of the match, she became just the third Dolphin in the program's history to record at least 400 digs in back-to-back seasons and the first to do it as a freshman and sophomore.
Rios, who also recorded a triple-double against the Dolphins last year, registered 10 kills, 17 digs and 24 assists. Meghan Kennelly, who joined Rios in posting a triple-double last year, recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs, while adding three blocks. Caroline Martins also tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Rios' setting partner, Annika Hacker, also contributed a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs, while posting three service aces. Charleigh Crews led the Chargers defensively with 17 digs.
Le Moyne (15-5, 5-2 NE-10), which falls to 0-15 all-time against the Chargers, continues its homestand on Friday at 5:00 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University.
