VOLLEYBALL RALLIES FOR 3-2 VICTORY OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore right side Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) recorded 18 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

The Ravens opened the match with back-to-back 25-21 wins to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Franklin Pierce worked its way to a 24-16 lead in the first set before the Dolphins scored five straight points to get within three, but then committed a service error. After the Dolphins scored the first five points of the second set, the Ravens rattled off 18 of the next 24 points for an 18-11 lead. The Dolphins once again rallied from a 24-16 deficit to get within 24-21, but like in the first set committed a service error. The Dolphins started their comeback with a 25-23 victory in the third set. The Dolphins tallied the first four points and gradually worked their way to a 24-19 lead. Franklin Pierce fought off defeat with four straight points, but senior outside hitter Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) slammed down a kill for the final point. Le Moyne evened the match at two sets apiece with a 25-21 win in the fourth set. After back-and-forth play led to a 20-all tie, Le Moyne tallied four straight points and five of the last six for the win. The Dolphins completed the comeback with a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set. The Dolphins tallied eight of the first nine points, including six points in a row on the back end of the streak. After the Ravens got within four on three occasions, the Dolphins closed out the victory with the final three points.

Miller landed six of her team high-tying 18 kills in the second set, while she finished the match with six digs and three service aces, including the final point of the match. Casson also recorded 18 kills in the match, including four in each of the first four sets. She had her streak of eight straight matches with a double-double snapped with eight digs. Sophomore middle blocker Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) was the third Dolphin to record double-digit kills with 16, including five in the final set. She registered her first career double-double with a career-best 13 digs, while adding five blocks. Junior setter Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) registered her team-best 11th double-double of the season with 60 assists, the 12th of which was the 2000th of her career, and 17 digs. The 60 assists are the second-highest total of her career and the sixth-highest by a Dolphin over the last 14 seasons. Sophomore libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 36 digs, with the 27th marking the 1000th of her career. She ranks eighth on the program's career list with 1009 digs and is the first Dolphin to record 1000 digs in a two-season span. Freshman defensive specialist Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) added a career-best 19 digs.

Katie Leidhold, the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year last season, led the Ravens in the loss with a double-double of 23 kills and 35 digs. Hannah St. Jean was the only other Raven to reach double figure kills by posting 10, while adding five blocks. Hannah Runge directed the offense with 51 assists, while contributing nine digs and three service aces. Four Ravens joined Leidhold in recording double figure digs, led by 25 by Brittney Carias. Danielle Varricchio recorded 13, Jocelyn Moody posted 13 and Madison Klusendorf tallied 10 digs.
 
Le Moyne (17-5, 7-2 NE-10), which is 7-0 in five-set matches this season, hits the road for the first time in 20 days on Friday by taking on Stonehill College at 6:00 p.m.
