MEN’S SOCCER UPENDED BY SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, 3-1, IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Garden City, N.Y. – Robert Brown scored two goals to lead sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University to a 3-1 win over the third-seeded Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Championships at Adelphi University's Motamed Field.

The Dolphins finish the season with a 14-5-2 record and appeared in the NCAA Championships for the second straight year and for the sixth time in the last 12 seasons. The 14 wins are most by the program since the 2009 season. The Dolphins also made their 16th consecutive berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, the second-longest active streak in the league behind Southern New Hampshire.

After the Penmen fired four errant shots over the opening 36 minutes of the game, Southern New Hampshire took advantage of a Le Moyne foul in the penalty box in a deadball situation, which resulted in the ejection of a player, to net its first goal of the contest. Rayane Boukemia, who missed the regular season meeting between the teams, stepped up and buried the penalty kick into the right side of the net at the 36:36 mark for his 13th goal of the season.

Only 2:34 later, the Penmen doubled their lead. Back Gilbert Manier sent a pass from the left sideline towards the top of the penalty box, where Brown ripped a one-timer inside the near left post.

Following six Southern New Hampshire shots over the opening 31 minutes of the second half, including a pair of shots that had to be saved, the Penmen tallied their final goal of the contest. Off a corner kick by Boukemia, the leading scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference, Brown fired another shot inside the left post from the middle of the penalty box at the 76:08 mark.

The Dolphins broke through with their final goal of the season with eight minutes left on their first shot of the game. Junior midfielder Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) played the ball up the middle of the field and into space. Freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) beat the charging goalkeeper to the ball and chipped it over his head and into the goal off a bounce for his conference-best 14th goal of the year. The 14 goals are tied for the sixth-most in a season in the program's history, while Faryar's 30 points are tied for the eighth-most in a single season. The assist is the 22nd of Resetarits' career, which moves him into third place on the program's career assists chart.

Le Moyne registered five shots over the 5:16, including three shots on goal, but could not cut into its deficit any further.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered three saves, including two in the second half, in the season-ending setback. Nick Zucco also made three saves in the in for the Penmen. Southern New Hampshire recorded a 15-6 advantage in shots, including the first 15 of the game, while taking seven of the game's eight corner kicks.
