WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON, 73-62, OVER HOLY FAMILY

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) tallied 20 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 73-62 win over Holy Family University on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the NE-10/CACC Conference Challenge at Ted Grant Court.

Riddick recorded 11 of her 20 points in the first half, while finishing the game with nine rebounds and two assists. Freshman guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, while classmate Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) posted 10 points.

Kylie Giedemann led the Tigers in the loss with 21 points, while adding five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Abigail Iannotti registered 10 points and nine rebounds, while Elizabeth Radley pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds and scored nine points.
 
After Millea and Iannotti traded baskets to open the game's scoring, the Dolphins recorded eight straight points. Riddick buried a pair of three-pointers in the span around two free throws from Millea.

Holy Family countered with a 9-0 run to take a one-point lead. Radley had five of the points, while two others scored two points each.

Roberts nailed a three-pointer from the right wing to give the Dolphins a 16-14 lead at the end of the quarter.

After Holy Family took its largest lead of the game with a 6-2 spurt to start the second quarter, the Dolphins rattled off 16 straight points to take the lead for good. Junior guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) scored five of the points, Roberts and junior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) each posted four points and Riddick nailed a three-pointer.

Giedemann made a three-pointer and jumper in the final 50 seconds to get the Tigers within 34-25 at halftime.

After the Dolphins pushed their lead to 42-30 with 5:18 left in the third quarter, the Tigers scored five straight points to get within seven with 3:47 remaining. Kelly Giedemann knocked down a three-pointer and then Iannotti made a lay-up.

Le Moyne countered with eight points on three-pointers by freshman forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) and Leszyk and a fast-break lay-up by senior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet).

Holy Family scored seven of the last nine points to get within 10 at the end of the third quarter. Jill Conroy made four free throws and then Alexis Hofstaedter capped the scoring with a three-pointer.

Following a three-pointer by Kylie Giedemann to get the Hawks within single digits for the final time, the Dolphins scored seven straight points. Roberts made a pair of lay-ups and then Riddick connected on a three-pointer.

After the teams traded points over the next 90 seconds, the Dolphins got two points from three different players to take their largest lead of the game at 69-51 with 4:01 remaining.

Holy Family recorded an 11-4 advantage over the last 3:22 to close out the game's scoring. Kylie Giedemann nailed a pair of three-pointers in the span, while Conroy started the spurt with a three-pointer.

Le Moyne (1-1), which played Holy Family for the first time, opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday at the University of New Haven at 5:30 p.m.
