ROBERTS TIES FRESHMAN RECORD AS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS PACE, 63-40

Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) registered 28 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 63-40 victory over Pace University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Roberts tallied 15 of her points in the second half, while finishing the game with four assists and three rebounds. Her 28 points are tied for the most by a Le Moyne freshman in the program's history. Kim Wagoner '08 tallied 28 points, including the winning point with two seconds left, in a 75-74 win against UMass Lowell on January 29, 2005. Junior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) was the only other Dolphin to score in double digits with 10 points, while grabbing six rebounds and blocking three shots.

Gabriella Rubin was the only Setter to score in double figures with 12 points, while adding five rebounds.
 
After the teams traded points over the opening 4:07, the Dolphins tallied eight straight points to open up a 12-3 lead with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter. Roberts started the run with a three-pointer, classmate Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) followed with a three-pointer and then Roberts made a fast-break lay-up.

Pace scored the final six points of the quarter to get within 12-9. Rubin made a jumper and then Alexandra Monteleone converted consecutive lay-ups.

Le Moyne tallied the first 14 points of the second quarter to blow the game open. Roberts ignited the run with a jumper, senior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) and junior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) made two free throws each, Roberts hit consecutive three-pointers and then Millea made a fast-break lay-up for a 26-9 lead with 3:43 to play in the quarter.

The Setters answered with nine straight points over a span of 1:39. Stefanie Svoboda started the streak with two free throws, Rubin made a lay-up, Svoboda had a conventional three-point play and then Jackie DelliSanti capped the run with a lay-up.

Junior guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) drained a three-pointer and junior forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) made a free throw with four seconds left to give the Dolphins a 30-18 lead at halftime.

The teams went back and forth over the opening six minutes of the third quarter with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between 11 and 15 points. After Monteleone made a free throw with 3:53 left to get the Setters within 40-27, the Dolphins scored six straight points for a 19-point lead with 2:12 remaining in the quarter. Roberts, Riddick and Millea each made jump shots in the streak.

After the teams split the first eight points of the fourth quarter over 3:47, the Dolphins tallied nine of the next 12 points for their largest lead of the game. Roberts drilled a three-pointer and followed with a conventional three-point play, Dobrovosky finished off a feed from Roberts and then freshman forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) converted a free throw.

Le Moyne (3-1, 2-0 NE-10), which has won its first two conference games for the first time since the 2007-08 season, is back on the hardwood on Wednesday hosting Roberts Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m.
