Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan) tallied 15 points to lead five Dolphins in double figures as the Le Moyne College men's basketball team defeated LIU Post, 82-76, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Ted Grant Court.
Richards, who tied his highest scoring output as a Dolphin (December 19, 2015, 80-74 win over Caldwell), recorded nine of his points in the first half, while finishing the game with four assists and two steals. Junior forward
Isaiah Eisendorf (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook/Gannon) and junior guard
Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) each posted 14 points and two assists, while Eisendorf added four rebounds and two blocked shots. Junior guard
Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) registered 13 points, four rebounds three assists and three steals, while junior forward
Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) turned in 10 points, five rebounds three assists and three blocked shots.
Jemal Mosley, who tallied 27 points for New Haven last year in the NE-10 opener, led the Pioneers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jared Hall came off the bench to record 16 points, four assists and three rebounds. Greg Dotson and Aary Bibens each totaled 11 points, while Dotson had four rebounds and Bibens had five.
LIU Post tallied the first five points of the game, while the Dolphins answered with five of their own. After the teams traded points, which resulted in an 11-10 Le Moyne lead, the Dolphins rattled off a 17-4 run over a stretch of 5:22. Hyland nailed a trio of three-pointers in the stretch, while Richards added two shots from long range and Kaigler made a lay-up.
The Pioneers answered with an 11-2 run to get back within five with 6:32 left in the half. Bibens tallied nine of the points on three shots from behind the three-point line, while Hall hit a jumper in the paint.
Le Moyne pushed its lead back to eight on a pair of occasions, but Kyle Doucette converted a lay-up and Hall followed with a three-pointer to get the Pioneers within 35-32 with 2:04 to go in the half.
Richards drained a three-pointer with six seconds left in the half to give the Dolphins a 40-34 lead at the intermission.
The Dolphins pushed their lead to 12 just over two minutes into the second half with the first six points of the stanza.
After Le Moyne's lead bounced between eight and 12 points over the next six minutes, the Dolphins used an 8-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 62-45, with 9:17 remaining. Kaigler scored the first six points and then Richards hit a jumper in the paint.
After LIU Post got within 11 for the first time with 7:08 left, Le Moyne's lead bounced between 11 and 14 points over the next five minutes and the Pioneers didn't get within single digits until just 52 seconds remained.
Le Moyne extended its lead to 10 on a pair of occasions over the next 23 seconds before Mosley hit his fifth three-pointer of the game to pull the Pioneers within seven. After free throws by Sangster and junior guard
Tyree Chambers (Bayreuth, Germany/Graf-Münster Gymnasium/Providence), Dotson finished the game's scoring with a lay-up with less than one second left.
Le Moyne (4-1), which has won its first three non-conference games for the first time since the 2011-12 season, is back in action on Saturday at top-ranked West Liberty University at 7:00 p.m.
