WOMEN’S BASKETBALL EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO SIX WITH 58-52 WIN AT SAINT ROSE

Albany, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's basketball team used balanced scoring to record a 58-52 win over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The starting backcourt of senior Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) and freshman McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) each scored 10 points, while Roberts added four assists and four rebounds. Junior guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) kept the Dolphins in the game in the first quarter with all nine of her points.

Taylor Nazon led the Golden Knights in the loss with a game-high 18 points, while adding five rebounds and two assists. Staci Barrett tallied 13 points and five rebounds, while Britani Stowe posted 10 points.

Saint Rose opened the game with the first four points and 10 of the opening 12 points. Stowe had six of the points, while Barrett had the other four.

The Dolphins answered with 14 of the next 18 points to take a two-point edge. Leszyk led the charge with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers and a conventional three-point play. Three Dolphins combined for the other five points.

Nazon hit a three-pointer with nine seconds left to give Saint Rose a 17-16 lead after the first quarter.

The teams traded points in the second quarter with each team holding a share of the lead and Demand making two free throws with 12 seconds left to give the Dolphins a 26-25 lead at the intermission.

Le Moyne tallied the first five points of the third quarter to build its lead to six. Roberts nailed a three-pointer and then junior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) made a lay-up.

Saint Rose countered with nine consecutive points to regain the lead. Morgan Sullivan had five of the first seven points and Stowe and Barrett scored two points each.

The Dolphins continued the back-and-forth action with nine of the last 11 points of the quarter for a 40-36 lead after 30 minutes. Le Moyne's nine points were scored by three different players.

Le Moyne's lead bounced between two and six points over the first nine and one-half minutes of the fourth quarter before Roberts made two free throws with 18 seconds left for the largest lead of the game, 58-52.

Le Moyne (6-1, 3-0 NE-10), which has won six games in a row, returns home to host Adelphi University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
