#4/6 MILLERSVILLE USES LATE RUNS TO DEFEAT BASEBALL, 5-3

Millersville, Pa. – Designated hitter John Brogan blasted a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning to lead #4/6 Millersville University to a 5-3 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Friday afternoon at Cooper Park.

Millersville took its first lead of the game with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Left fielder Jeremy Musser doubled to left center with one out and then right fielder Chas McCormick reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. After McCormick stole second, first baseman Dan Stoltzfus singled up the middle to drive in Musser and McCormick.

Le Moyne scored one run in each of the next two innings to tie the score. In the second, junior catcher Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) led off with his first home run as a Dolphin and the second of his 98-game collegiate career. The Dolphins tied the score in the third with one run on two hits. Freshman third baseman Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) led off with a single to center and advanced to third as senior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) reached on an error by the third baseman. Sophomore right fielder/first baseman Brian Cox (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingston) followed with a double down the left field line to plate Gray.

The Marauders regained the lead in the bottom of the third with one run on one hit and one Le Moyne error. McCormick reached on an error by the first baseman with one out, moved to second on a groundout and then scored on a single to right field by catcher Mitch Stoltzfus.

The Dolphins tied the score at three in the fourth with two hits. Senior first baseman/pitcher Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) singled down the left field line with two outs and came around to score on a double to left center by sophomore left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy).

Following two scoreless frames by each team, Brogan led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to center to give Millersville the lead for the third time.

The Marauders added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on two hits. Brogan singled to center to open the inning, took second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a fly out and then scored on a bunt single down the third base line by shortstop Tyler Orris.

Graduate student righty Zach Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda/Susquehanna) suffered his second straight loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over five and two-thirds innings, while striking out six. Jim McDade registered eight strikeouts over six innings to earn his second win, while allowing three runs on seven hits. Mike Mock tossed three scoreless innings for his first save.

Le Moyne (9-7), which slips to 1-2 against ranked teams this season, opens a four-game series with Philadelphia University on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
