SECOND-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE RECORDS 15-11 WIN OVER 18TH-RANKED BENTLEY IN NE-10 OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) scored four goals for the third straight home game to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 15-11 victory over 18th-ranked Bentley University on Sunday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead 5:12 into the game. Fazio, the reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week, opened the game's scoring with an unassisted goal after curling around the side of the cage 1:22 into the contest. Exactly one minute later, senior attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) converted a free-position shot for her eighth goal of the season. After senior goalkeeper Ryan Cortese (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) turned away a free-position shot on one end, sophomore midfielder Abbie McEntee (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) slipped a free-position shot into the back of the net 27 seconds later with 24:48 remaining.

Bentley responded with three of the next four goals over a span of 6:02. Meredith Hart got the Falcons on the scoreboard with 21:11 left by scoring off a free-position shot. Le Moyne got the goal back 58 seconds later as Fazio finished off a feed from senior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/SUNY Cortland). Hart trimmed her team's deficit back to two 48 seconds later off another free-position shot. Erin O'Connor got the Falcons within one with an unassisted tally with 15:09 to go in the half.

Le Moyne answered with four consecutive goals for an 8-3 lead. Following 10 minutes of scoreless play, Monnat converted another free-position with 5:04 left. Just 30 seconds later, Geremia shook her defender behind the net and came around the right side to net her 10th goal of the season. McEntee tallied her second free-position goal of the contest with 1:52 remaining for a 7-3 advantage. Fazio completed the run by scoring from the right edge of the crease with 26 seconds left off a move from behind the net.

Bentley got within 8-4 at halftime as Ellie Shuman recorded her eighth goal of the season with just seven seconds left in the half.

The Falcons scored two of the first three goals of the second half to get within 9-6. Kelsey Howard started the scoring in the half with a free-position goal 64 seconds into the stanza. Fazio pushed Le Moyne's lead back to four with her team-best 14th goal of the season with 26:31 left after taking a pass from junior midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) in an extra-player situation. In a Bentley extra-player opportunity, O'Connor converted a free-position shot with 25:01 left to make it a three-goal game for the second-to-last time in the game.

Le Moyne rattled off five goals in a span of 7:05 to take a game-high eight goal lead. In transition, junior attacker Alexis Garbarino (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) finished off a pass from Monnat on the front of the crease with 24:45 left for her second goal of the season. Just under four minutes later, junior defender Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) went coast to coast after Bentley was whistled for a charge for her first goal of the year. McGuane recorded her second goal of the year with 19:59 left off a move down the right alley for a 12-6 advantage. Only 36 seconds later, freshman midfielder Clarissa Perry (Sackets Harbor, N.Y./South Jefferson) converted a free-position shot for her first career goal. McGuane capped the streak with her second goal of the half with 17:40 left after taking a feed from Geremia.

The Falcons countered with a 5-0 run of their own to trim their deficit back to three. Howard started the comeback by finishing off a pass from Hannah Lindgren with 16:21 remaining. O'Connor tallied a free-position goal with 13:11 left for her seventh marker of the campaign. Howard made the score 14-9 with 10:47 left by scoring from the left edge of the crease in an extra-player situation. Just 19 seconds later, Hart registered her third free-position goal of the contest. Following 7:42 of scoreless action, Lindgren found the back of the net on a free-position shot to make it a three-goal game, but the Falcons could not get any closer.

Freshman midfielder Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) completed the game's scoring with her second goal of the season with nine seconds left.

Cortese made three saves in 30 minutes between the pipes to earn her third straight victory. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), who made her debut in net after a four-year career on the hardwood in which she became just the ninth Dolphin to register at least 825 points and 590 rebounds, made two saves in the second half. Lauren Ochs took the loss for the Falcons after turning away 10 shots.

Le Moyne (4-0, 1-0 NE-10), which has defeated a ranked team for each of its four victories, travels to Springfield, Massachusetts on Tuesday to take on American International College at 4:00 p.m.
