Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior right fielder
Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) registered three hits in each game to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a sweep of The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Dolphins rallied to win the opening game, 9-8, and then posted an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
The Golden Knights jumped on the Dolphins in the first inning of the opener with five runs on five hits. Center fielder/left fielder Carly Wood led off with a single to the pitcher, moved to second as third baseman Jadyn Costello was hit by a pitch and then took third on a sacrifice bunt. Right fielder Tina Karaqi then singled to left field to plate Wood. After shortstop Danielle Brusca walked, designated player Briana Bowen doubled to right center to knock in Costello and Karaqi. Left fielder Katie Shevlin and first baseman Kayla Bancroft followed with singles to drive in Brusca and Bowen.
Le Moyne got two of the runs back in the bottom of the first. After Trotta doubled to right field with one out, junior third baseman
Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) blasted a home run to left field.
The Dolphins evened the score at five apiece in the bottom of the third with three runs on five hits. Trotta led off with a double to left field and came around to score on a single to center by Mascari. After a groundout and a single to center by junior center fielder

Emily Bagley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) singled to center to knock in freshman designated player
Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy). Sophomore second baseman
Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) then singled to center to plate Riley.
Le Moyne took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on two hits. After DeRita led off with a single to center, Riley tripled to left center to knock in freshman pinch-runner
Lauren Floyd (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Two batters later, Andrews grounded out to score Riley.
Saint Rose tied the score at seven in the top of the sixth. After second baseman Alina Germinerio reached on a muffed throw by the second baseman to start the frame, Wood launched a home run over the fence in left field.
Le Moyne regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs on four hits. Junior shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) doubled to left field with one out and came around to score on a two-out single to left field by Mascari. After DeRita singled to center, Riley doubled to center to knock in junior pinch-runner
Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley).
The Golden Knights scored once in the seventh, but left the tying run stranded at second base. Center fielder Meghan Reynolds walked to open the frame, moved to second on a groundout and then scored on a two-out double to left field by Wood. The next batter grounded out to first to end the game.
Sophomore
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) earned the win out of the bullpen after tossing the final four innings, while yielding three runs (two earned) and three hits. In addition to Trotta's three-hit performance, Mascari, DeRita and Riley each had three hits and Andrews posted a pair as the Dolphins finished with a season-high 16 hits. Nicole Wickham took the loss for the Golden Knights after giving up nine runs and 16 hits over six innings.
Le Moyne started the scoring in the second game with one run on two hits in the second inning. Riley singled in front of the plate with one out and raced around to score on a double to the right fielder by Andrews.
Saint Rose tied the score in the fourth inning on a one-out, solo home run to left field by Brusca.
The Dolphins plated the winning run in the bottom of the fifth on three hits. Case singled to center with one out, moved to second on a single by Trotta and then took third on a single by Mascari. DeRita then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Case.
Le Moyne blew the game open with six runs on five hits and one run in the bottom of the sixth. Riley led off with a single to center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then took third on a single to center by Andrews. Riley then scored as senior first baseman
Cara Cawley (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) reached on a fielder's choice. After an out, Case singled to right field to drive in senior pinch-runner
Meagan Malarkey (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott/Broome C.C.). Trotta then doubled to center to plate sophomore pinch-hitter
Rachelle Walters (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and Case. Mascari then launched her seventh home run of the season over the fence in left center to cap the game's scoring.
Senior righty
Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) earned her eighth win of the season after striking out two over seven innings, while yielding just one run and nine hits. In addition to Trotta's three hits, Case and Riley each had three hits and Mascari and Andrews each posted two hits. Roma Mazzariello suffered the loss in the circle after giving up eight runs and 13 hits over six innings.
Le Moyne (17-11, 5-5 NE-10, 4-4 SW) is back on the diamond on Saturday at Franklin Pierce University at 12:00 p.m.
