SOFTBALL BLANKS NEW HAVEN, 6-0, IN SOUTHWEST DIVISION ACTION

Box Score West Haven, Conn. – Senior pitcher Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) tossed five scoreless innings to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 6-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon at the UNH Softball Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather. The scheduled doubleheader on Sunday that would have featured a divisional game and a non-conference game will now be two divisional games.

Following four scoreless innings to start the game, the Dolphins struck for the only run they would need on three hits in the fifth inning. Senior first baseman Cara Cawley (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) singled to left field with one out and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After freshman third baseman Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) singled to left field, senior left fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) singled to center to drive in senior pinch-runner Meagan Malarkey (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott/Broome C.C.).

Le Moyne (18-11, 6-5 NE-10, 5-4 SW) blew the game open with five runs on just two hits in the sixth inning. Senior designated player Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) and junior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) drew back-to-back seven-pitch walks to open the frame, while Mascari was replaced at first base by freshman pinch-runner Lauren Floyd (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). After a sacrifice bunt and a line out, Cawley singled to left field to drive in Floyd and Riley. After walks by Zazzaro and Reynolds to load the bases, junior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) doubled down the left field line to clear the bases.

Secreti registered a pair of strikeouts over her five scoreless innings, while yielding just two hits, to earn her team best-tying ninth win of the season. With her two hits, Cawley was the only player in the game to record multiple hits. Nicole King took the loss for the Chargers after allowing six runs and six hits over five and two-thirds innings, while striking out eight.
