SECOND-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE CRUISES TO 17-2 WIN OVER ASSUMPTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) registered five points to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 17-2 victory over Assumption College on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Dolphins opened the game with three goals over the first 4:14 of the contest. Monnat started the scoring 39 seconds into the contest after taking a pass in transition from sophomore midfielder Abbie McEntee (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia). Sophomore attacker Jacqueline Pardee (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 27:39 mark off a feed from freshman attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown). Just under two minutes later, senior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/SUNY Cortland) made it 3-0 by converting a free-position shot.

Assumption got on the scoreboard 8:02 into the game as Alexis Pastore finished off a pass from Krista Iwanicki.

Le Moyne scored seven times over the final 21 minutes of the half to take a 10-1 lead into the intermission. Geremia started the run with an unassisted goal, her 17th of the season, with 21:00 left. Just under five minutes later, McEntee tallied her seventh goal of the season off a feed in transition from Fazio. Only 32 seconds later, Geremia sent a pass to Monnat for her 16th goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) gave the Dolphins a 7-1 lead with 12:55 left off a pass from Fazio. Junior midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) converted a free-position shot with 6:24 left for her fifth goal of the year, while Monnat tallied an unassisted goal 55 seconds later for her 17th goal. Senior attacker Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) closed out the scoring in the half with 1:15 left after accepting a pass from junior defender Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee).

The Dolphins scored the opening six goals of the second half. Junior attacker Alexis Garbarino (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) gave the Dolphins a double-digit lead 39 seconds into the second half off a pass from Maggie Monnat. McEntee converted a free-position shot with 27:36 left for her eighth goal of the year, while Claire Monnat gave the Dolphins a 13-1 lead with a player-down goal with 22:54 left off a feed from Geremia in transition. McGuane netted her second goal of the day with 17:50 left, while freshman midfielder Kasi Cabrey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered her third goal of the year four minutes later off a pass from Maggie Monnat. Cabrey capped the run with an unassisted goal at the 8:56 mark.

Erin Gildea registered her fourth goal of the year with 6:10 left to make the score 16-2.

McGuane finished off the game's scoring with her seventh goal of the year with 53 seconds left after taking a pass in transition from Pardee following a save by redshirt junior goalkeeper Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland).

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Cortese (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) recorded a pair of saves over 41:43 between the pipes to earn her sixth victory of the season. Brown registered two saves over the final 18:17 of the contest. Jaclyn Chirco registered eight saves in the loss for the Greyhounds. The Dolphins recorded a 30-11 advantage in shots, caused nine turnovers, registered a 14-7 edge in draw controls and posted a 23-10 advantage in ground balls.
 
Le Moyne (7-0, 4-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday at 14th-ranked Stonehill College at 1:00 p.m.
