Shippensburg, Pa. – Shippensburg University rallied for a 6-5 win in 11 innings in the opener and held on for a seven-inning 6-5 win in the nightcap to sweep the Le Moyne College baseball team in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Fairchild Field.
Shippensburg opened the scoring on the afternoon with one run on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Shortstop Mike Marcinko led off with a double to left center and came around to score on a one-out single to the right side by center fielder Austin Allison.
The Raiders doubled their lead in the fifth on a one-out solo home run to left field by Marcinko.
Le Moyne, which is receiving votes in the latest
Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll and is ranked fifth in the NCBWA East Region rankings, evened the score at two apiece in the top of the sixth on two hits and one Shippensburg error. Senior shortstop
Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) reached on an error by the third baseman to start the inning and then stole second base. After an out, senior second baseman

The Dolphins took a 5-2 lead in the seventh with three runs on four hits. Freshman designated hitter

JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) followed with a bunt single, which advanced sophomore pinch-runner
Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) to third. Following a pitching change and a pop out, Swetman singled to the shortstop to drive in Martin. After Swetman stole second, sophomore right fielder/first baseman
Brian Cox (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingston) lifted a sacrifice fly into foul territory down the left field line to plate Pittman. Charbonneau then doubled to right center to knock in Swetman.
Shippensburg forced extra innings by scoring three times on three hits in the bottom of the ninth inning. Catcher Jack Goertzen led off with a single through the left side, took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a groundout. First baseman Cash Gladfelter then doubled to left field to drive in Goertzen. After a Le Moyne pitching change and a strikeout, right fielder Grant Hoover blasted a home run to right field to tie the score at five apiece.
The Raiders claimed the victory with one run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Goertzen got things started again by drawing a walk and then was replaced at first by pinch-runner Zack Zoller. After a sacrifice bunt, Gladfelter singled to center to drive in Zoller.
Senior first baseman/pitcher
Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) suffered his first loss on the mound after yielding two runs on two hits over two innings, while striking out two batters. Charbonneau registered four of Le Moyne's nine hits, while Swetman finished the game with three stolen bases. Tyler Butcher earned the win for the Raiders after tossing three scoreless innings, while striking out two.
Shippensburg built a 5-0 lead in the nightcap before the Dolphins rallied over the final two innings. The Raiders started the scoring with two runs on one hit and one Le Moyne error in the third inning. After Marcinko walked with one out and then stole second, he scored on a double down the left field line by Hoover. After an out, left fielder Dalton Hoiles reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, which allowed Hoover to score from third.
Shippensburg pushed its lead to three with one run on two hits in the fourth inning. Following back-to-back one-out singles through the left side by third baseman Ryan McMillen and Goertzen, McMillen scored on a safety squeeze by second baseman Nick Spangler.
The Raiders extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on three hits. Following one-out singles by Hoover and Allison, Hoiles singled to center to drive in both runners.
Le Moyne started its comeback with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. The Dolphins loaded the bases without any outs on singles by Charbonneau, junior center fielder
Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) and Levanti. After Charbonneau was retired at home as senior catcher/designated hitter
Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) reached on a fielder's choice, Place drew a walk to force in DiNorcia. Following a pitching change, Levanti scored on a sacrifice fly by Pittman.
Shippensburg got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth on two hits. Goertzen led off with a double to right center and moved to third on a foul out to right. After an out, Marcinko singled back to the pitcher to plate Goertzen.
The Dolphins scored three runs on two hits and one Shippensburg error in the seventh, but could not plate the tying run. Swetman walked to start the frame and moved to second on a single through the left side by freshman right fielder
David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day). After an out,
Donato DiNorcia singled through the right side to load the bases. As Levanti reached on a fielder's choice,
David DiNorcia scored, while Swetman came around to score on a throwing error by the pitcher. West then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to knock in
Donato DiNorcia, but Levanti was stranded at second as the next batter was retired for the final out.
Graduate student
Zach Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda/Susquehanna) suffered his first loss of the season after yielding five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings, while striking out eight. Levanti finished the game with three hits, while
Donato DiNorcia posted two. Marcus Shippey earned the win after striking out three over five and one-third innings, while allowing two runs on seven hits.
Le Moyne (7-4), which slips to 2-10 against the Raiders over the last four seasons, concludes its three-game series with Shippensburg with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
