SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT PLAY AT THE SPRING GAMES WITH WINS OVER LIU POST AND HOLY FAMILY

Clermont, Fla. – Junior catcher Emily Bagley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) recorded a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Le Moyne College softball team a 2-1 win over LIU Post on Wednesday evening at Hancock Park. In their second game of the night, the Dolphins defeated Holy Family University, 5-2.

The Dolphins opened the scoring against the Pioneers with one run on one hit in the bottom of the third inning. Senior left fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was hit by a pitch to start the frame, but was replaced on the basepaths by junior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), who reached on a fielder's choice. After a strikeout, Case scored from second on a single to center by junior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park).

LIU Post forced extras as designated player Isabella Corrao led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to left center.

The Dolphins won the game with one hit in the eighth inning. After sophomore pitcher Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) advanced to third on a wild pitch after being placed on second to start the frame, Bagley singled to right field to drive in Eastman.

Eastman improved to 4-1 on the season after striking out four over eight innings, while yielding the one run on five hits. Ashley Martin took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven-plus innings, while striking out six.

Holy Family started the scoring in Le Moyne's second game with one run on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Third baseman Kristine Casey doubled to left field with one out, moved to third on a single to center by first baseman Bailey Walters and then scored on a bunt single by catcher Olivia Nolan.

The Dolphins evened the score at one apiece in the top of the third on two hits. Case led off with a single to center and advanced to second on a single to center by senior right fielder Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont). After a sacrifice bunt moved each runner up a base, Case scored on a groundout by junior designated player Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo).

Le Moyne took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs on three hits. Sophomore second baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led off with a single to center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk by freshman third baseman Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) and a sacrifice bunt, Case singled to left center to drive in Andrews and Zazzaro.

The Tigers cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth with just one hit. Casey doubled to open the frame, moved to third on a groundout and scored on another groundout.

The Dolphins put the game away with three runs on four hits and one Holy Family error in the seventh inning. Case, Trotta and Riley opened the frame with consecutive singles to load the bases. Mascari then singled to right field to drive in Case, while Trotta scored on a missed catch by the catcher. Following a walk by Bagley to load the bases again, Riley scored on a double play.

Senior righty Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) picked up her fourth win of the season after tossing four innings, while yielding two runs on seven hits. Eastman earned her first career save after striking out two over the final three innings, while giving up just one hit. Trotta went 4-for-4 in the contest, while Case had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Koreen Orozco suffered the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings.

Le Moyne (8-4) begins play at the West Virginia Wesleyan Invitational at the Moyer Complex in Salem, Virginia on Friday afternoon. The Dolphins take on Mansfield University at 1:00 p.m. and Clarion University at 3:00 p.m.
