BASEBALL REGISTERS SIXTH STRAIGHT VICTORY, 11-2, AT SAINT MICHAEL’S

Colchester, Vt. – The Le Moyne College baseball team had a pair of five-run innings en route to defeating Saint Michael's College, 11-2, on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Doc Jacobs Field.

Saint Michael's opened the game's scoring with a run on two hits in the first inning. Shortstop Dan Flynn and designated hitter Calvin Holland recorded consecutive singles through the right side with one out. After a walk to load the bases and a strikeout, right fielder Joe Robertson was hit by a pitch to force in Flynn.

The Purple Knights doubled their lead in the third inning without putting the ball in play. Left fielder Drew Salk and Robertson drew back-to-back one-out walks. After a strikeout and a walk by catcher Aiden Burton to load the bases, second baseman Nick Addona walked on five pitches to force in Salk.

Le Moyne took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with its first five-run inning on six hits and one Saint Michael's error. With one out, junior third baseman Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) and freshman designated hitter Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) recorded back-to-back singles. After a fly out and a single to the shortstop by sophomore left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) to load the bases, junior center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) singled up the middle to drive in Levanti and Place and tie the score. Senior catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) followed with a single up the middle of his own to plate Pittman and DiNorcia. After West stole second, senior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) singled to the shortstop to move West to third, while he scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

The Dolphins added five more runs on five hits and two errors by the Purple Knights in the seventh inning. With one out, Swetman reached on a muffed throw by the first baseman and then moved to second on a single to right center by sophomore right fielder Brian Cox (North Kingston, R.I./North Kingston). Senior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) then singled to right center to knock in Swetman and Cox. After Levanti reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder, he scored on a double down the left field line by Place. Senior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) then doubled to left center to drive in Place. Following a single to the shortstop by Pittman, Wright scored as Pittman got caught in a rundown trying to steal second.

Le Moyne tacked on one run without getting a hit in the ninth inning. Freshman right fielder David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) led off by drawing a walk on four pitches and then took second on a wild pitch. After freshman pinch-hitter Greg Koster (Massapequa, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) walked, redshirt sophomore Phillip Jasak (Palmer, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy/Saint Michael's) reached on a fielder's choice as DiNorcia was retired between third and home. Koster then scored as Jasak advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher.

Redshirt junior righty Ryan O'Kane (Memphis, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) improved to 3-0 on the season after scattering five hits over four and one-third innings out of the bullpen, while striking out one. Levanti, Place and Pittman each recorded two of Le Moyne's 12 hits. Curt Echo took the loss after allowing 10 runs (five earned) and 11 hits over six and two-thirds innings.

Le Moyne (19-9, 7-1 NE-10), which has won six straight games and 10 of its last 11 games, returns to action on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Pace University at 1:00 p.m.
