BASEBALL RALLIES IN NINTH TO FORCE EXTRAS, TOPS PACE, 5-4, IN 15TH

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 15th inning to give the Le Moyne College baseball team a 5-4 win over Pace University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Dick Rockwell Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed until Sunday due to imminent darkness.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring with a run on two hits in the bottom of the third inning. Senior shortstop/pitcher Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) led off with a single up middle, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then took third on a groundout. Junior third baseman Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) then lined single through the right side to drive in Swetman.

Le Moyne doubled its lead in the fourth as sophomore left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) blasted his first career home run over the fence in right field with one out.

Pace took the lead in the top of the seventh with four runs on just two hits. First baseman Garrett De Lotto opened the frame with a walk on seven pitches after falling behind 0-2 and then took second on a single to the left side of the infield by right fielder Cory Capaldi. After a walk by third baseman Nick LoBello after falling behind 0-2 to load the bases, De Lotto scored on a wild pitch. With the count full, catcher Frank Mayo launched a three-run home run to left center to give the Setters a 4-2 lead.

The Dolphins forced extras by scoring twice on three hits in the bottom of the ninth. After senior catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) singled up the middle with one out, Swetman reached on a fielder's choice and then was awarded second as West's slide caused an errant throw. Following a walk by redshirt junior pinch-hitter/right fielder Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant), senior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) singled to center to drive in Swetman. Levanti followed by dropping a single in front of the center fielder to drive in Martin with the tying run, but Charbonneau was retired at the plate to end the inning.

Following five scoreless extra innings, the Dolphins walked off with the victory in the bottom of the 15th inning. Freshman shortstop Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) reached on a dropped line drive by the shortstop with one out and then took second on a single to center by senior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). After a Pace pitching change and a walk on four pitches by Pittman to load the bases, DiNorcia lined a 1-1 pitch over the right fielder's outstretched arm to drive in Gray with the winning run.

Swetman struck out a career-best six batters over four scoreless innings after moving to the mound to earn his first career victory. West tied his career-high with four hits, while Levanti finished the game with three hits and two RBI. DiNorcia and Swetman also recorded a pair of hits in the victory. Michael Sweeney dropped to 1-5 on the season after giving up an unearned run in one-third of an inning of work.

Le Moyne (20-9, 8-1 NE-10, 3-1 SW), which has won seven straight games for the first time since the 2013 season, continues its series with the Setters on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
