Colchester, Vt. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three with a 6-3 victory over Saint Michael's College on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Tarrant Recreation Center.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top spot, junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) earned their seventh straight victory by topping Ben Lambert and Hayden Steward, 8-6. Sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) were 8-5 winners at the second position against Sam Laves and Dan Foley. Redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) registered an 8-3 victory at the third spot over Charlie Merry and Forrest Owen.
The teams split the singles competition as the Dolphins captured the match. Gayvert improved to 4-3 in conference action at the top spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lambert. Barton recorded his third straight victory by defeating Merry at the second position, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Underwood registered back-to-back scores of 6-4 against Patrick Dietz for his team-best eighth straight victory.
Laves rallied at the third position to defeat Doney, 4-6, 7-6 (12-10), 10-8, while Foley came from behind for a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-5 win over Spoor at the fifth spot. Steward earned his team's first point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Legris at the fourth position.
Le Moyne (6-8, 4-4 NE-10), which has moved into sixth place in the NE-10 standings with two matches remaining, hosts its final non-conference match of the year on Thursday against New York Institute of Technology at 12:30 p.m. at the Gold's Gym in Liverpool.
