Liverpool, N.Y. – Southern New Hampshire University won four of the six singles matches to register a 5-4 win over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Gold's Gym.
The Dolphins opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. Southern New Hampshire claimed the first point of the day as Sebastian Ramirez and Max Georgeff teamed for an 8-3 win at third doubles over redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston). The duo of junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) evened the match at one apiece by defeating Miguel Marreiros and Tiago Fernandes at the top spot, 8-5. Sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) put the Dolphins in front with an 8-6 win at the third position over Ricardo Marreiros and Xavier Aubron.
In singles action, Spoor extended Le Moyne's lead in the match to 3-1 by recording a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ramirez at the fifth spot. The Penmen won the next four singles matches to clinch the victory. Fernandes recorded the first win by posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Legris at the four position. Ricardo Marreiros was then a 6-2, 6-3 winner at the top spot over Gayvert, while Miguel Marreiros gave the Penmen a 4-3 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the second position over Barton. Aubron clinched the win for the Penmen with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the third spot over Doney. Underwood registered his fifth straight win by defeating Georgeff at the sixth position, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
Le Moyne (3-8, 1-4 NE-10) is back on the courts on Wednesday at Saint Anselm College at 3:00 p.m.
