Rindge, N.H. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team had five double winners en route to defeating Franklin Pierce University, 8-1, on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top spot, junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) combined to beat Marcus Lawrence and Andrew Schadt, 8-5. Sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) also were 8-5 winners at the second position over James Bisazza and Olivier Viel. Redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at the third spot over Drew Bennett and Dan Longtin.
Le Moyne captured the match by taking five of the six singles matches. Doney gave the Dolphins a 4-0 lead in the match by defeating Schadt at the third spot, 6-0, 6-0. Barton was then a winner at the second position over Lawrence, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the match. Legris added a 7-5, 6-3 win at the fourth spot over Bennett. Underwood was an 8-1 winner over Joshua Singer at the sixth position, while Spoor topped Viel, 8-2, at fifth singles. Franklin Pierce earned its point at the first position as Bisazza edged Gayvert in the closes match of the day, 7-5, 0-6, 10-6.
Le Moyne (5-8, 3-4 NE-10) returns to the courts on Sunday at Saint Michael's College at 12:00 p.m.
