Syracuse, N.Y. – The second-ranked and top-seeded Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team scored the first 14 goals of the game en route to a 15-3 win over fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Ted Grant Field.
Following back-and-forth action over the opening seven minutes of the game, sophomore attackman
Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with his 18th goal of the year in transition with 7:36 to go in the first quarter. With just over four minutes left in the period, freshman midfielder
Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) recorded his fifth goal of the season. Kesselring followed with his second goal of the day just 33 seconds later. All-conference graduate student midfielder
Matt Taylor (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Cornell) capped the scoring in the opening quarter with the eventual game-winning goal by scooping up a loose ball on the crease off a saved shot and dumping it into the back of the net for his 22nd goal of the season.
The Dolphins added seven goals in the second quarter to take an 11-0 lead into halftime. Taylor started the scoring in the quarter with an unassisted tally 50 seconds into the period. Just 31 seconds later, all-conference junior midfielder
Brian Rogers (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded his 32nd goal of the campaign.
First Team All-Northeast-10 Conference attackman
Logan Thomas (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) was then part of three goals over a span of 1:55. He started the run by finishing off a pass from all-conference senior attackman
Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). Following a turnover by the Penmen, senior defensive midfielder
Kyle DeAngelis (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) raced up field before finding Thomas for his 36th goal of the season with 8:37 left. Just nine seconds later off the ensuing faceoff, junior faceoff specialist
Kendall Vecchio (Watertown, N.Y.//Johns Hopkins) scooped up the ball and flipped it to Thomas, who found a cutting
Josh Slowinski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) for his fourth tally of the season for a 9-0 lead.
Freshman attackman
Jack Vajda (Clinton, N.J./Rutgers Prep) got the Dolphins into double-digits with 6:11 left by recording his 17th goal of the year from in front of the net off a pass from Taylor. Thomas completed the scoring in the half by finishing off a feed from senior midfielder
Nick Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) for his team-best 37th goal of the campaign with 3:58 remaining.
Le Moyne extended its lead to 14 with the first three goals of the third quarter. Vajda started the scoring at the 10:45 mark after collecting a pass from Thomas. Just 40 seconds later, senior midfielder
Mike Fiorini (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) registered his 11th goal of the season. Junior attackman
Cade Kelleher (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) followed 45 seconds later with his 11th goal of the year.
Southern New Hampshire broke through with its first goal of the game as Chris West found the back of the net with 5:41 left in the third quarter. West followed with his sixth goal of the season just under two minutes later.
Freshman midfielder
Daniel Lynch (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica) completed Le Moyne's scoring with his first career goal with 4:11 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Tom Schutz closed out the game's scoring with his third goal of the year with 12 seconds left.
Two-time Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year
Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.) registered nine saves (against one goal) over 39:19 between the pipes to earn his 16th victory of the season. With the victory, Krawec moves into third place on the program's career wins chart with his 32nd, while he also becomes the third Le Moyne goalkeeper to record a pair of 16-win seasons and the second to do so in consecutive seasons. Tyler Walsh recorded 11 saves over 52:59 in suffering just his second loss of the season for the Penmen.
The Dolphins, who improved to 16-0 on the season, advance to their 16th Northeast-10 Conference title game in their 20 seasons in the league and will take on second-seeded and third-ranked Merrimack College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. After giving up a 13-7 third-quarter lead against eighth-ranked and third-seeded Adelphi University, the Warriors defeated the Panthers with 38 seconds left in triple overtime, 14-13.
