Newark, Del. – Sophomore middle blocker
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) landed 25 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to wins over Wilmington University and Chestnut Hill College on Saturday at Wilmington's Wildcat Regional Tournament. The Dolphins recorded a 3-0 win over Wilmington in the morning and then defeated Chestnut Hill, 3-1, in the afternoon.
Against Wilmington, the Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by scoring eight of the final 10 points in the first set for a 25-19 victory. Le Moyne doubled its lead with a 25-16 win in the second set, which included a 9-1 run midway through the set, and then closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in the third set, which included an 11-2 run to turn a 9-5 deficit into a five-point edge.
Hafoka led the Dolphins to the victory with 12 kills and a .478 hitting percentage, while adding three blocks on the defensive side of the net. Junior setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) directed the offense with 35 assists and added a pair of kills. Sophomore libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 21 digs, while senior outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) recorded a season-best 15 digs.
Allison Briley led the Wildcats in the loss with nine kills and seven digs. Miranda Shaw dished out 25 assists and posted five digs and two kills, while Addalyn Flores tallied eight digs and three service aces.
The Dolphins opened their match with Chestnut Hill with a 25-14 win in the first set to take a 1-0 lead. Le Moyne extended its lead with a 25-15 victory in the second set. The Griffins stayed alive in the match with a 25-18 win in the third set. After Chestnut Hill avoided defeat on the first set-point of the fourth set, the Dolphins recorded back-to-back points for a 26-24 victory to close out the match.
Sophomore right side
Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) registered a season-best 18 kills to lead the Dolphins offensively. Casson and Hafoka each totaled 13 kills over the four sets, while Casson added eight digs. Corcoran recorded her third double-double of the season with a season-best 53 assists – the second-highest total of her career – and 10 digs. Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) recorded 10 digs and three assists.
Madison McBride led the Griffins in the loss with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, while adding two assists. Samantha Smith finished the match with 11 kills and eight digs. Kennedy Sutton directed the offense with 39 assists, while Regina Trabosh led the defense with 18 digs and Peyton Reno posted 12 digs.
Le Moyne (6-2), which went 3-1 at the Wildcat Regional Tournament for the second straight year, returns to action on Wednesday by hosting Daemen College at 7:00 p.m. at Jamesville-DeWitt High School in DeWitt.
