Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 setback against Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The Dolphins picked up their first point of the season at the second doubles position as freshman
Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, N.Y./Justine Henin Academy (Belgium)) and junior
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) defeated Dennis Barlotta and Guilherme Plentz de Liz, 8-4. At the top doubles position, Hugo Ball-Greene and Jose Carrillo recorded an 8-5 win over senior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and junior
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds), while Paul Langbroek and Mathew Cruz posted an 8-4 win over senior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and sophomore
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) at the third spot.
Doney earned Le Moyne's first singles point of the year at the third spot by posting a 6-4, 6-4 win over Barlotta. At the first spot, Ball-Greene edged Gayvert, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, while Langbroek was a 6-0, 6-4 winner against Sagaille at the second position. Plentz de Liz turned in a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the fourth spot against Barton, while Carrillo claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win against Procopio at the fifth position. Cruz won at sixth singles over Underwood, 6-2, 7-5.
Le Moyne (0-1) is back on the courts on Thursday against Hamilton College at 4:00 p.m.
