Syracuse, N.Y. – Nina Predanic scored a pair of goals to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 2-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
With the victory, Saint Rose evens the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions at one point apiece.
The Golden Knights struck for the game's first goal in the 21st minute. After taking a short pass from Victoria Barris just to the right of the penalty kick stripe, Predanic sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net for her first career goal.
The Dolphins evened the score at one apiece just under eight minutes later. After moving down the endline, senior forward
Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net from just outside the left edge of the goal box. The goal, her sixth of the season, gives Terry 24 for her career, which is tied for the eighth-most in the program's history. She also moves into 10th place on the program's all-time points list with 55.
The deadlock didn't last for long though as Saint Rose regained the lead just 24 seconds later. Sammy Blizzard carried the ball into the left side of the penalty box before crossing the ball in front of the net. Predanic ran onto the ball and slipped it into the lower right corner from five yards out.
The Dolphins recorded a 4-3 edge in shots over the final 12 minutes of the opening half, but could not net the equalizer.
The second half featured just five combined shots, with the Dolphins recording three of them. Junior forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) put a pair of attempts on net, but goalkeeper Marika Laurendeau corralled each shot. Le Moyne's last – and best – scoring chance came with 42 seconds remaining as freshman midfielder
Claire Stackel (Watertown, N.Y./Copenhagen) blasted a shot that got past Laurendeau, but clanged off the left post.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered three saves in between the pipes for the Dolphins. Laurendeau recorded five saves in the victory for the Golden Knights. Each team registered 11 shots, while Saint Rose posted a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (2-3-1, 0-2-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday against Saint Anselm College at 3:30 p.m. at Ted Grant Field.
