Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 9-0 win over Saint Anselm College on Sunday morning at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
At the top spot of the doubles competition, senior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and junior
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) recorded an 8-0 win over Eric Howes and Kyle Harris. Freshman
Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, N.Y./Justine Henin Academy (Belgium)) and junior
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) were 8-6 winners over Daniel Kmetz and Adam Weinstein at the second position. Senior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and sophomore
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) teamed at the third spot to defeat Brian Kavanagh and Alex Pearson, 8-5.
The Dolphins won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. At the top position, Gayvert recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Howes. Sagaille earned his first career conference win by defeating Weinstein at the second spot, 6-0, 6-4. Doney improved to 3-0 at the third position with scores of 6-0 and 6-1 against Kmetz. Barton tallied consecutive scores of 6-2 to beat Kavanagh at the fourth spot. Procopio won the closest match of the day, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 14-12, over Harris at the fifth spot. Underwood posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Benji Page at the sixth spot.
Le Moyne (2-1, 1-0 NE10) will complete its Fall season by sending six members to the ITA East Regional Friday through Sunday at New York Tech.
