WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPPED BY SAINT MICHAEL'S, 61-50

Syracuse, N.Y. – Leah Spencer recorded a double-double to lead Saint Michael's College to a 61-50 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

Senior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) led the Dolphins offensively with 14 points, including nine in the second half. Junior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

Spencer tallied game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Samantha Delaney turned in 15 points and nine rebounds, while Emily Ferreri scored 11 points and Indira Evora posted 10 points and eight rebounds.

The teams went back and forth in the first quarter before junior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) drained a three-pointer to give the Dolphins a 12-9 lead.

The Purple Knights countered with the final six points of the quarter for a 15-12 lead. Delaney, Spencer and Taylor Miller each scored two points in the span.

Saint Michael's scored 11 of the first 12 points of the second quarter, including nine in a row on the backend, to take a 13-point lead. Spencer made two jumpers, Evora buried a three-pointer and Ferreri and Delaney each converted lay-ups.

The Dolphins closed out the half with 10 of the last 14 points to get within 30-23 at halftime. Five different Dolphins scored in the span, which was started by a three-pointer by freshman guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse).

The Purple Knights tallied six of the first eight points of the third quarter to regain a double-digit lead. Spencer, Evora and Delaney each scored two points in the stretch.

Le Moyne responded with seven straight points to get within four. Dobrovosky made a lay-up and then Demand scored five consecutive points.

The teams exchanged points over the remainder of the quarter with Saint Michael's taking a 44-38 lead into the final quarter.

The teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter before Saint Michael's ran off nine straight points to put the game away. Ferreri and Delaney made shots before Spencer scored five consecutive points to give her team a 59-44 lead with 2:55 to play.

The Dolphins tallied six of the game's final seven points to deliver the final margin. Demand scored the first four points and Dobrovosky ended the game with a put-back lay-up.

Le Moyne (9-8, 5-6 NE10), which fell at home for just the third time this season, is back on the court on Saturday at Bentley University at 1:30 p.m.
