Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior forward
Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) scored a career-high 23 points as the Le Moyne College women's basketball team wrote off the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University, 88-61, in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court on Tuesday night.
The Dolphins hit 45.5 percent (10-22) from downtown and a season-best 52.9 percent (36-68) from the field. The 88 points that the Le Moyne offense put on the board was the highest of the year, as well.
The Penmen took an early 12-8 lead at the halfway mark in the first. But, when an 11-4 Dolphin run took up the last five minutes the quarter, the score would remain in favor of Le Moyne for the remainder of the game.
In the second quarter, the Dolphins were nearly perfect from far as they outscored the Penmen 31-8. They made six-of-seven three-pointers, all off three different sets of hands. Riddick made three of those shots.
Le Moyne pulled ahead by 26 by the halfway point, 50-24, and its lead would eventually top out at 37 (76-39) after junior guard
Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) sank a three-ball to start off the fourth.
After a couple of SNHU runs, which included a three-pointer by Brianna Camara for the last points of the game, the deficit finished at 27, the final score being 88-61.
Riddick in her career night was 9-13 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range, while adding eight rebounds. Leszyk was 3-4 from that distance to total a career-best 19 points. Freshman guard
McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied 10 points and added eight assists to increase her season total of 110, which currently leads the NE10 and is the fifth-most in a season by a Dolphin. Junior forward
Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) snatched a game-leading 10 rebounds to go along with 11 points for her fifth double-double of the season and a career-high six assists. Junior forward
Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) registered a career-best 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Kylie Lorenzen, last year's Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year, led the Penmen in the loss with 14 points in 18 foul-plagued minutes. Camara tallied 12 points and Sara Ryan posted 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
The 'Phins rise to 10-9 overall and 6-7 against NE10 opponents, while the Penmen fall to 8-12 on the season and 3-10 in conference.
Next, the Dolphins will head to Rindge, N.H., where they will take on Franklin Pierce on Saturday for an afternoon game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
