MEN’S TENNIS EDGES UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, 5-4

Washington, D.C. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team won four of the six singles matches to defeat the University of the District of Columbia, 5-4, in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts.

The Firebirds took a 2-1 lead through the doubles competition by winning the two matches that were contested. Le Moyne claimed the first point of the day as freshman Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and junior Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) won by default at the third position as the Firebirds were unable to fill the position. Rok Bozic and Marco Feligioni earned UDC's first point with an 8-4 win at the top spot over sophomore Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and senior Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds). Alexis Baguelin and Ander Murillo edged junior Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and senior Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee), 9-8 (9-7), at the second position.

The Dolphins evened the match at two apiece as Underwood won by default at the sixth singles position due to UDC only having five players. Hernandez gave the Dolphins a 3-2 advantage by defeating Baguelin at the second spot, 6-3, 6-4. Bozic evened the match at three by rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over Blythe at the first position. Murillo gave UDC a 4-3 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the third spots against Doney. Barton registered a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win at the fourth spot over Feligioni to knot the match at four apiece. Erickson clinched the victory for the Dolphins with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Josip Marinic at the fifth spot.

Le Moyne (2-1) closes out its Fall schedule on Saturday at Kutztown University at 10:00 a.m.
