SWIMMING & DIVING TEAMS SWEPT BY BENTLEY

Syracuse, N.Y. – Seniors Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) and Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) each won three individual events and were part of first-place relay teams, but the Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. The men fell 159-141, while the women were defeated 177-111.
 
To open the men's portion of the meet, May and sophomores Nicholas Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) and Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.39.

May was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 21.91 seconds. He added a win in the 100-yard butterfly by 1.45 seconds with a time of 52.51 seconds. May posted his third victory of the meet by topping his competition in the 200-yard by over 2.5 seconds with a time of 2:01.62.

Dierolf added his first individual victory by topping the field in the 100-yard breaststroke by over 2.5 seconds with a time of 1:00.22. He completed the sweep of the breaststroke events by winning the 200-yard by just 0.28 seconds with a time of 2:15.56.

Walton claimed first place in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.70 seconds.

Junior Matthew Wanamaker (Camillus, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/SUNY Geneseo) registered his first victory as a Dolphin by winning the first one-meter diving event with 142.75 points. He completed the sweep of the diving events by recording 252.15 points in the second one-meter diving event.
 
Smith, the reigning NE10 Swimmer of the Week, earned her first win of the day by touching the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.13. Four events later, she captured the 100-yard freestyle by almost two seconds with a time of 54.90 seconds. She tallied her third victory of the afternoon by recording a time of 1:01.56 in the 100-yard butterfly.
 
Senior Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) edged her closest competitor in the 50-yard freestyle by 0.19 seconds with a time of 26.02 seconds.
 
Smith and Baker closed out the meet by teaming with freshman Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) and classmate Sarah Gaffney (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:42.86.

The Dolphins are back in action on Friday, November 10, when they host Ithaca College at 6:00 p.m.
