Syracuse, N.Y. – Kellie Smith recorded a double-double to lead Assumption College to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Saturday morning in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Court.
The Dolphins opened the match by cruising to a 25-9 victory in the first set, which included a 13-1 run in the backend of the set. Le Moyne doubled its lead in the match with a 25-17 win in the second set, which the Dolphins opened by scoring eight of the first 10 points. Assumption began its comeback by using an 11-2 run to rally from a 17-13 deficit en route to a 25-22 win in the third set. The Greyhounds forced the decisive fifth set with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set, which included a 9-0 run after falling behind 10-9. After the teams went back-and-forth and split the first 22 points of the fifth set, Assumption scored four of the last six points for a 15-13 win to clinch the victory.
Junior outside hitter
Marguerite Dillon (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) led the Dolphins in the setback by registering her team-best seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills, including five in the third set, and 14 digs, including six in the first set, while adding three service aces. Junior right side
Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) tallied 13 kills, including six in the first set and four in the second set, while dishing out four assists. Junior middle blocker
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) also posted 13 kills to go along with four digs. Senior setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) recorded her sixth double-double of the campaign with 41 assists and 16 digs, while adding three service aces and two blocks. Junior libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 27 digs, including at least five in each of the second through fifth sets. Sophomore defensive specialist
Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) posted 11 digs and three service aces.
Smith led the Greyhounds in the victory with a double-double of 14 kills, including five in the third set, and 10 digs, while adding two assists and two blocks. Kiki Romanik also recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 16 digs, while hitting .429 en route to six kills. Maria Chrisom led Assumption defensively with 18 digs, while Addison Stafford tallied 11 digs and three blocks.
Le Moyne (8-8, 1-4 NE10), which fell to the Greyhounds for the third time in five years after winning the first 20 all-time meetings, returns to the hardwood on Saturday at Pace University at 1:00 p.m.
