Isaiah Eisendorf (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook/Gannon) recorded 14 points to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 74-62 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
Eisendorf tallied 12 of his team-high point total in the second half, while finishing the contest with six rebounds and three assists. Senior guard
Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) registered 12 points off the bench, including nine in the second half. Senior forward
Robert Jones III (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Northeastern College/Idaho State) scored a season-high 11 points and dished out a team-high four assists in his first start as a Dolphin. Sophomore forward
Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) was the fourth Dolphin in double digits with a career high-tying 10 points, while tying his career-high with nine rebounds.
Joey Wallace led the Owls in the loss with a game-high 21 points, 11 of which he scored in the first half, while adding six rebounds and three assists. Jerry Luckett, Jr. turned in 16 points (10 in the second half) and a team-high eight rebounds, including six offensive. Isaiah McLeod recorded 12 points, including nine in the second half.
After the teams split the game's first four points, the Dolphins ran off 13 straight points to take control of the game. Brown bookended the streak with a pair of three-pointers, while senior guard
Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) and Eisendorf hit jumpers around a three-pointer by senior guard
Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan).
The Owls scored nine of the next 14 points to get within 20-11 with 8:50 remaining in the half, but senior guard
Tyree Chambers (Bayreuth, Germany/Graf-Münster Gymnasium/Providence) nailed back-to-back three-pointers to push Le Moyne's lead to 15 for the first time.
Following a 10-6 spurt by Southern Connecticut State to trim its deficit to 32-21 with 2:56 left in the opening half, Jones III and Hyland drained consecutive three-pointers to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the game, 38-21, with 1:56 to go in the stanza.
Wallace buried a pair of three-pointers around a three-pointer by Jones III to get the Owls within 41-27 at halftime.
Southern Connecticut State opened the second half with 11 of the first 13 points to get within five, 43-38, with 16:56 to play. Wallace had six of the points, McLeod started the half with a three-pointer and Luckett, Jr. made two foul shots.
Following five points from each team over the next two minutes, the Dolphins scored five straight points and eight of the next 10 over 4:22 to take a 56-45 lead. Four Dolphins scored in the span, led by three points from Eisendorf.
The Owls made one final push to get within five, 63-58, with 5:48 left, but could not get any closer. Luckett, Jr. and Ulyen Coleman each had four points in the 13-7 run.
The Dolphins answered with seven straight points to regain control of the game. Eisendorf and Sangster each made shots before redshirt sophomore guard
Oshea Gairey (Toronto, Ontario/St. John's Catholic Prep (Md.)/Simon Fraser) had a steal and lay-up and senior forward
Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) made a free throw.
The Owls got back within 10 on two occasions in the final 2:27, but Hyland answered each time with a pair of free throws to close out the scoring.
Le Moyne (4-0, 2-0 NE10), which has won its first four games for the first time since 2014-15, begins the road portion of its NE10 schedule on Tuesday at Adelphi University at 7:30 p.m.
