WOMEN’S BASKETBALL USES THIRD-QUARTER SURGE TO DEFEAT NEW HAVEN, 65-55

West Haven, Conn. – Senior forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) scored 15 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 65-55 victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium.

Webster's 15 points, eight of which she scored in the first half, led four Dolphins in double figures, while she added five rebounds. Sophomore guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) flirted with a triple-double with 13 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) turned in 13 points and four blocks (her most as a Dolphin), while senior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) posted 10 points.

Micah Wormack led the Chargers with 17 points, including 13 in the first half, and nine rebounds off the bench. Allieyah Cubbage tallied 13 of her 16 points in the first half, while adding five rebounds and three assists.

The teams went back and forth in the opening quarter with neither team taking more than a three-point lead. After the Dolphins went up 13-10 on a lay-up by junior guard Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) with 1:56 left, Wormack scored the final four points of the quarter to give her team a 14-13 lead.

The Chargers scored the first three points of the second quarter to push their lead to four for the first time.

After the teams traded baskets, resulting in a 21-18 New Haven lead on a Wormack jumper with 6:27 left, Roberts and Riddick made back-to-back shots to give the Dolphins the lead with 5:18 to go.

Following six points from each team over the next three minutes, the Chargers scored seven straight points in 22 seconds for a 34-28 advantage with 1:49 remaining. Cubbage started the spurt with a three-pointer and Khayla Trowell capped it with a conventional three-point play.

Riddick nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left to get the Dolphins within 34-31 at halftime.

Le Moyne scored the first six points of the third quarter to reverse the three-point margin. Webster, Dobrovosky and Riddick each accounted for two points.

After New Haven countered with four straight points to take the lead back, the Dolphins took the lead for good with nine straight points. Following two points each from Webster, Dobrovosky and senior Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)), Riddick beat the shot clock with a three-pointer with 31 second left in the quarter for a 46-38 advantage.

Brie Pergola converted a jumper with 13 seconds left to get the Chargers within 46-40 after three quarters.

After Dobrovosky made two shots in the first 2:20 of the fourth quarter to extend Le Moyne's lead to 50-40, the Chargers answered with five straight points to cut their deficit in half with 5:50 to play. Wormack made a pair of lay-ups around a free throw by Cubbage.

Le Moyne countered with 10 straight points over 2:30 to put the game away. Roberts made two free throws, Riddick hit a jumper, Webster made her first career three-pointer (four career attempts) and then Roberts capped the spree with a three-pointer with 2:44 remaining for a 60-45 lead.
