Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) and sophomore
Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) each recorded three hits to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 10-3 season-opening win over Post University on Friday afternoon at the North Main Athletic Complex.
The Dolphins opened the game's scoring with one run in the bottom of the second inning. Junior left fielder
JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) drew a walk with one out and moved to second on a single to right by Spinoso. After a walk to load the bases, Pittman scored on a ground out by redshirt senior right fielder
Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant).
Le Moyne added to its lead with three runs on three hits and one Post error in the third inning. Sophomore first baseman
Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) singled to left with two outs and moved to second as sophomore shortstop
Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. Following a single by Pittman to load the bases, Spinoso doubled to right center to clear the bases.
Post cut its deficit in half with two runs on two hits and one Le Moyne error in the fourth inning. Right fielder Mike Munson led off with a double to right center and came around to score as center fielder Alex Wright reached on a two-base throwing error by the second baseman. Left fielder Drew Deangelis then singled to left center to drive in Wright.
The Dolphins pushed their lead to five with three runs on three hits and one error in the bottom of the fourth. Martin led off with a triple to left center and came home on a double to right center by freshman second baseman
Brian O'Mara (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). Levanti followed with a double to left center to knock in O'Mara. After a pair of outs, Gray reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed Levanti to score.
Le Moyne added a run in the fifth on three hits. After Spinoso led off with a single to left, redshirt sophomore third baseman
Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) doubled to left center and took third as Spinoso was thrown out at home. Three batters later, Levanti singled to left to plate Walsh.
The Dolphins finished off their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Senior center fielder
Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) singled to the left side of the infield with one out and then stole second. After Place walked and Gray was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Pittman singled to left center to drive in DiNorcia and Place.
Post cut their final deficit to seven in the top of the ninth on a one-out home run to left field by first baseman Don Walsh.
Junior reliever
Alex Kubera (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk/Niagara C.C.) earned the victory in his Dolphin debut after striking out seven over the game's final five innings, while yielding one run on four hits. In addition to the three-hit games by Levanti and Spinoso, Pittman posted two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Nick Arnold took the loss for the Eagles after allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over four innings.
Le Moyne (1-0), which won its season opener for the third straight year, has a pair of games on Saturday. The Dolphins face Post again at 9:30 a.m. and then face East Stroudsburg University at 4:00 p.m.
