SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH FELICIAN AND SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO OPEN SEASON

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) drove in four runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to an 8-2 victory over Felician University on Friday afternoon on the first day of the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament at the Ned Donkle Complex. The Dolphins opened the season with a 6-0 loss to Southern New Hampshire.

In the second game of the day, Felician got on the scoreboard first with a run on one hit in the first inning. Shortstop Zeaenna Brackett led off with a single to first base and then stole second. After taking third on a fly out, she scored on a sacrifice fly to right by third baseman Racquel Manzo.

The Dolphins answered with two runs on just one hit in the bottom of the first. Senior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) walked to open the frame and then stole second. After a groundout, Case scored as Riley reached on a fielder's choice. Following a single and a strikeout, Riley scored on a wild pitch.

Le Moyne extended its lead to five with four runs on three hits and one error in the second inning. Freshman first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) led off with a double to center field on a ball lost in the sun. After an out and two walks to load the bases, freshman catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) singled through the left side to plate Artley. Riley then doubled to center to knock in senior left fielder Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), Case and Nicolosi.

The Dolphins added a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Freshman second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) led off with a single to third base and moved to second on a bunt single to the pitcher by Artley. After a sacrifice bunt and a line out, Case doubled to right center to plate McManus and Artley.

Felician finished off the game's scoring with one run on one hit and one error in the seventh inning. First baseman Mia Montoya led off with a single up the middle, moved to second as left fielder Jeannette Roldan reached on a dropped throw by the first baseman and then took third on a wild pitch. Catcher Brittney Lazar then grounded out to knock in Montoya.

Junior Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) earned her first win of the season after striking out four over four innings in the circle, while yielding one run on one hit. Nicolosi finished the game with three hits and Artley tallied two hits. Dyonna Pagliocca took the loss after giving up six runs on four hits over one and one-third innings.

Southern New Hampshire scored the only run it would need in the first inning without recording a hit. Left fielder Devan Rabidou drew a walk to open the game, moved to second on a sac bunt, stole third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher Erin Garczynski.

The Penmen tallied two runs on one hit and one Le Moyne error in the second inning. Right fielder Jessica Torsiello doubled with one out and advanced to third as first baseman Erin Morrissey reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. After a walk to load the bases, center fielder Katie Horiuchi lifted a sac fly to left to knock in Torsiello. Morrissey then scored on a passed ball.

SNHU added a run on one hit in the third on one hit and two errors. Garczynski walked with one out and took second on an error by the first baseman on a pickoff attempt. After third baseman Erin Tyrell reached on an error by the first baseman, designated player Sarah Lavallee singled to knock in Garczynski.
