BASEBALL RECORDS 9-6 VICTORY OVER EAST STROUDSBURG

Holly Springs, N.C. – Sophomore first baseman Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) went 5-for-5 to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 9-6 victory over East Stroudsburg University on Sunday afternoon at the North Main Athletic Complex.

East Stroudsburg, which won 38 games and advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Region semifinals last year, opened the game's scoring with two runs on one hit and one error in the first inning. Second baseman Jay Young tripled with one out and scored as right fielder Ian Allen struck out but reached first on a passed ball. After stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Allen scored on a wild pitch.

The Dolphins answered with three runs on four hits and one error in the second inning. Place led off with a single and came around to score on an error by the right fielder on a single by sophomore third baseman Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington). Following an out, junior left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) doubled to drive in Spinoso. Redshirt sophomore designated hitter/pitcher/shortstop Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) then singled to knock in Pittman.

Le Moyne added two runs in the top of the third. Senior catcher Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) led off with a double and moved to third on a single to Place. Spinoso then doubled to plate Levanti. Following an out, Place scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Pittman.

The Warriors got one run back in the third. Allen walked with one out, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a triple by third baseman Laine Renaud.

The Dolphins regained a three-run lead in the fifth on one hit. Place doubled to start the frame, took third on a balk and scored on a passed ball with two outs.

East Stroudsburg got back within two in the sixth on one hit and one Le Moyne error. First baseman Tom Nuneviller singled with one out and advanced to third on a throwing error by the third baseman. Shortstop Joey Paolini then lifted a sac fly to left to knock in Nuneviller.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 8-4 in the seventh. Senior center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) led off with a single and then stole second and third base. After a ground out, he scored on a double by Place. Following a Spinoso single, Place scored on a sac fly to center by sophomore shortstop/pitcher Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle).

The Dolphins added a run without getting a hit in the eighth. Redshirt senior right fielder Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) was hit by a pitch to open the inning, took second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on sac fly to center by DiNorcia.

East Stroudsburg scored once in the eighth on two hits. Renaud singled to lead off the frame and was replaced at first by Billy Sablinski. Following two outs, catcher Mike Sulcoski singled to drive in Sablinski from second.

The Warriors closed out the game's scoring with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth. Young and Allen drew consecutive walks with one out. After a pitching change and a single by designated hitter Dylan Tamecki to load the bases, Young scored on a throwing error by the shortstop on an attempt to double-off Tamecki at first on a pop out.

Redshirt sophomore Max Tessitore (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) earned the win after striking out two over three innings, while yielding an unearned run. Gray picked up his second save in as many days by recording the final two outs. Place's three doubles are tied for the most in a game in the program's history and are the most since Sean Paino '10 on March 24, 2010, while his five hits are tied for the second-most in the program's history. Place also scored four times. Spinoso finished the contest with three hits. Connor Johnson took the loss for the Warriors after giving up five runs on eight hits over two-plus innings.

Le Moyne (3-1), which has won three of its first four games for the second straight year, is back in action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for a doubleheader at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
