TOP-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE OPENS SEASON WITH 27-1 WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – The top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team had 15 players find the back of the net en route to a 27-1 season-opening win over American International College on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins scored five times in the opening 3:43 of the game and held a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Junior attackman Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded three goals and dished out an assist in the opening period. Freshman attackman Sean Emerson (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) also scored three goals in the quarter in his collegiate debut, while adding two assists. Sophomore attackman Ryan Cosgrove (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) tallied three points in the opening quarter with two goals and one assist. Defensive midfielders Justin Hussey (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Onondaga C.C.), Ryan Desmond (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) and Andrew French (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) each recorded assists in transition during the 3:43 span to start the game.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 16-0 at halftime with six goals in the second quarter. Kesselring added a goal and an assist in the second quarter, both of which came in extra-man situations. Freshman attackman Matt Malone (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) scored his first two collegiate goals in the period, while adding an assist. Senior midfielder Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) added his second goal of the game, while freshmen Jake Stowell (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Neal Crist (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) each scored the first goals of their career.

The Dolphins scored seven times in the third quarter. Freshman Hans Zimmer (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) scored the first and seventh goals in the stanza. Junior midfielders Luke Bartkoski (Victor, N.Y./Victor), Bailey Wilkinson (Black River, N.Y./Carthage) and Greg White (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols School) and sophomore Robert McCarthy (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) each tallied one goal and one assist in the quarter. McCarthy's assist was his second of a career-best three in the game.

After Sam Scarfo got American International on the scoreboard midway through the fourth quarter, the Dolphins tallied the final four goals of the game. Freshman Kyle Siegler (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) tallied two of the four goals. Sophomore Daniel Lynch (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) added his second goal of the game and dished out an assist, while freshman attackman Jared Griffin (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) added a goal to a first-quarter assist.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Sweeney (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) earned the victory between the pipes in his Dolphin debut without needing to make a save in 15 minutes of action. Matt Sayegh took the loss for the Yellow Jackets despite making 18 saves.
 
Le Moyne (1-0, 1-0 NE10), which tied for its fourth-highest scoring output in the program's history and its highest since scoring a program-best 30 goals against St. Anselm on April 9, 2003, is back in action on Saturday against 17th-ranked Lindenwood University at 12:00 p.m. at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
